Violet's POV

I glance at him. Why does he have a frown now?

"Okay, class. So now I'll give you some time to think about what to do for your Chemistry assignment," Mr Smith says.

My eyes widen and I turn to look at Joshua. He looks up and catches me staring at him. He smirks and says, "So Violet Mitchell, why do you dress so weirdly?"

I freeze.

This is the question I hope no one will ever ask me.

Now I don't have an excuse.

Crap, I need to think of something, fast.

"I...I don't... know... Do I dress weirdly?" I stammer, hoping I don't sound nervous. He raises an eyebrow and say, "Well yeah, I mean look at you. You wear baggy clothes when every other 16-year-old girl in the world would wear skinny jeans and crop tops that show off their figure. And then there's you who doesn't seem like you care about what other people think of you."

Woah, did he just compliment me? Sort of, at least.

I blush again and say, "Um, I don't want to talk about how I dress. What about you?"

"What about me?" Joshua asks. "Like where did you come from, uh stuff like that," I try, praying that our conversation will not land on me. "Um, I come from California, I have a brother...That's it," he says, not looking interested.

"Oh...okay." I smile uncomfortably and... I have nothing else to say.

Oh thank you world for leaving me here with Joshua Parker without anything to say.

How awkward.

Joshua's POV

I have so many questions to ask Violet. I mean everything about her is weird or at least, unusual. I'm pretty sure she was hiding something when I ask about her outfit.

I sigh. Let's just go back to our Chemistry assignment.

"Okay, so what do you want to do for our Chemistry assignment?" I ask, trying not to make things more awkward between us. She looks relieved and I smirk. Looks like she doesn't like things to be awkward too.

"Um... I think we should try to create a lava lamp," she exclaims. Wait, a lava lamp is cool. Violet, the nerd, just said something not nerdy. I couldn't believe she just had a cool idea. I look at her, surprised.

"Yeah that's cool. I thought you were gonna grow a green bean or something," I say, grinning. She blushes and avert her eyes from me. I smirk, yet I feel excited about our Chemistry assignment.

"So do you want to come over to my house today and we can discuss about the assignment?" I ask.

That was not smooth at all.

I face-palmed myself mentally.
