Chapter Fourteen--
"Hello!!" Denise greets Nick and I at the door. We smile and hug her as we make our way inside the house with our suitcases."I'll get Elvis out of the car." Nick says, jogging back to the SUV. We brought our dog with because since we were going to his parents' house, we figured Elvis could come. Denise helps with our bags and I hold my purse on my shoulder and put a hand on the handle of my suitcase.
"Wow, you look great." Denise says to me, looking me up and down and smiling warmly.
"Thank you! You do too." I smile back at her and give her another small hug. Nick comes in with Elvis on his leash.
"Nicholas, why don't you help her with the bags." Denise tells her son, her tone stern.
"Which room should we stay in?" He asks, letting the dog off the leash and setting it on the marble counter.
"Whichever, doesn't matter to me." She smiled and puts her hands on her hips. Nick nods and rolls our suitcases down a hallway, and I follow him with Elvis behind me. I help him get them upstairs and Nick leads me to a master bedroom.
"Wow." The view was beautiful and there was a chandelier and a master bed. I gasped and put a hand over my mouth.
"Yeah." He breathes out and puts the bags against the wall. Elvis jumps up on the bed and makes himself comfy. I chuckle at him and Nick catches me off guard by picking me up in his arms.
"Nick what are you doing?" I ask as I'm over his shoulder and he starts to walk out of the room and down the stairs. He doesn't answer, but instead goes out to the backyard. By the pool.
"Oh no you don't!" I start pounding my fists into his back and fussing. He jumps in the pool with me in his arms. As I plunge into the water, I feel Nick let go of me. When we come back to the surface, I scowl at my boyfriend. He smiles boyishly and pushes his curly hair back from his forehead. I was just about shivering even though it was a nice day and the water wasn't that bad. He was lucky that there wasn't anything in my pockets.
"You're so stupid!" I sarcastically yell at him. He looks hurt, but he knows I'm kidding around with him.
"You love me though. So it's okay." He shrugs and I just tred in the water, not able to touch the bottom as well as Nick. The side that he jumped in is six feet deep, so we're both not quite that tall.
"I do. I really do." I smile and put my arms around his neck, pulling him in for a big wet kiss.
"You wanna spend the day out here?" Nick asks once we pull away.
"Swimming sounds nice. And relaxing." I reply, a smile on my face as the sun hits me directly.
"Okay. Let's get inside and change." He jumps out of the pool and helps me up, squeezing out his shirt. We walk up to the bedroom we were staying in, Denise looking at us with a confused look on her face.
As Nick got on his swim trunks, his phone rang. He looks at me, my eyes narrowed because we both knew that it was something about work. Instead of ignoring it, Nick picks up the phone and starts talking while walking out of the room. Really? I just shake my head and get my bikini out of my suitcase. I brought along my black one that didn't have straps, but the top just clipped in the back. I put my hair up in a bun and walked out of the room and Elvis was laying out in the hallway with his head on his paws.
"Hey boy." I scratch his head and he stands up to follow me downstairs. Denise is nowhere to be seen and so I just looked for Nick. I finally went into the living room and looked out the large window, only to see my boyfriend pacing on the front lawn, his jaw clenched and his other hand in a fist at his side. I went outside and march up to him.
"What did I tell you?!" I yell as Nick hangs up the phone.
"I'm sorry, okay? I had to take it." His teeth are gritted and it doesn't seem like I've made his temper much better.
"All I ask is for one weekend, Nick! One weekend!" I scream in his face.
"I'm sorry that this didn't go as planned Marni! Maybe you just need to give me a say in when of when I don't answer my phone because of my career!!" He screams louder. I get silent, as well as him. We both stand there, ashamed, but I can tell there's still tension in the air.
"Let's just pretend we weren't just fighting and hug and whatever." Nick pulls me in for a hug, but I can tell that it wouldn't last very long. We walked inside, my anger still inside of me as Nick basically put on a show for his mother and father. We all sat out in the backyard, Mr. and Mrs. Jonas sitting on lawn chairs and discussing something, and Nick and I sitting on the edge of the pool with our feet in the water. I was leaning on him and he had an arm wrapped around me.
"Sorry. I just really wanted this weekend to be just you and I." I say, my voice whiny.
"It's okay. I just want you to be aware that sometimes I just can't escape my work. It's really hard, it's my life. Music and acting is just what I do." Nick says, his thumb gently rubbing the top of my hand, which rested on his knee.
"I know. I just need to grasp that idea a little more. We're good then baby?" I ask, looking up at him and smiling. Nick smiles at me and gives me a kiss before replying to me.
"Well....there is one thing..." His gaze drops to the ground.
"What?" I roll my eyes. Nick lightly pushes me into the water, causing me to fall sideways. I squeak in surprise as I'm plunged into the warm water. When I resurface, Nick has a smirk on his face while his parents are looking in our direction with their mouths open.
"Nicholas!" I yell, pulling him in with me and laughing as he goes under water. I went under water and opened my eyes a little to see him swimming up to the surface. I quickly swim up to him and now he's got a confused look on his face. I laugh and we continue to swim.
A few hours later, the sun is setting and Nick hasn't come up to the bedroom. Mr. and Mrs. Jonas went out for a little bit, so it just left Nick, Elvis, and I. I get off the bed and walk downstairs while tying my silk robe around me. I make my way to the backyard and see Nick sitting on a chair, looking into the pool.
"Hey honey." I walk out, my bare feet cold against the cement.
"Oh, hey." He looks up as if I've interrupted his thoughts.
"You wanna come in? It's getting cold out here." I say, the breeze pulling at my hair.
"Yeah, I was just about to. Just thinking." He assures me, standing up and walking with me inside. Once we get up to the bedroom, Nick and I are getting ready for bed. I walk over to him and he backs up toward the wall as I stand in front of him.
"I had fun today." I say, grabbing his hand and kissing the back of it.
"Me too. I love you so much Marni. I hope you know that." I look at him and put my lips gently on his. I put my hands on both of his cheeks, caressing his face. Nick cups my butt and lifts me up, and I wrap my legs around his torso. He walks over to the bed and gently lays me down. He stands over me and there is lust in his eyes. Nick unties my robe and hovers over me, kissing my neck immediately.
"We're home!" I hear Denise's voice echo through the hallway.
"Sh*t." Nick mutters, getting up right away. I crawl in bed under the covers, throwing my robe on the floor. My boyfriend jumps in bed next to me and we make it seem like nothing happened. There's a knock on the door and Nick says to come in. Denise pokes her head in the room.
"You kids doing okay in here?" She's so concerned all the time. I roll my eyes and smile, Nick tightening his grasp around me.
"We're fine mom." Nick tells his mother.
"Okay. Goodnight you two. I love you." Denise says before shutting the door again, leaving us by ourselves.
"Well, that was ruined." Nick comments, taking his arms from around me. I just laid next to him, trailing my fingers up to his jawline. He smirks as well as myself, starting to kiss me.
