In my car without my phone is the worst thing that could possibly ever happen to me. Why Mom? Why would you break my charger by making dinner? I pull into the school parking lot a few minutes earlier than school starts, with a bit of trouble trying to find a parking space. Even ten minutes before school starts, the parking lot is pretty packed.
When I get out of my car, I decide I should head to my locker. When I get to my locker, I open my bag and see someone lean their body on the lockers next to mine. I look up to see Emma.
"Oh, hey Emma. Didn't expect to see you around," I say pulling out some books from my bag and putting them into my locker. That bag is a killer.
"Listen, Carrie," she states.
"It's Cara," I interrupt her, finally looking back up at her.
"Whatever, Cara," she sighs. "I heard that you hung out with a Dolan yesterday after school around town. Why don't you just listen to me about them? They are nothing but bad news."
"Grayson is actually a really nice person," I tell her. "I don't know why you and everyone else in this town are against the Dolan twins, but it's getting old to me. Besides, what have they specifically done to you?"
Emma pauses for a second, having to come up with an answer. "What they did is show off all of their rich kid clothes to people who can't afford it."
As if on cue, Grayson strolls down the hallway in jeans and an Old Navy t-shirt. "Oh yeah, those Old Navy clothes are definitely some of the most expensive I've ever seen."
"Hey, Cara. I see you've actually made another friend that isn't me. That's such a shocker," he laughs. "I'm just kidding. I don't think we've met before. My name's Grayson." He holds out a hand to meet her. She just glares at him.
"My name is Emma, and lose the act," she states, folding her arms.
"What act?" Grayson asks, obviously aggravated, with a laugh to cover it up.
"You know what act I'm talking about, Dolan," she sneers. "And I don't appreciate you forgetting about it either. Why don't you just stop trying to corrupt the one good person that moves to this town and move far away?"
"Emma, I think you need to leave," I tell her softly, laying a hand on her arm.
"I'll see you in English," Emma mumbles, strutting away.
"I'm sorry that she acted that way towards you," I sigh, shaking my head.
"Nothing I'm not used to," Grayson says softly, causing my heart to ache for him. "Anyways, how was your morning so far?"
"Well, I was having a crap day already, and that just made my crap day even worse," I state. "My mom broke my phone charger last night trying to make our dinner, and now I don't have a charger."
"I might have a spare you can have," Grayson suggests and my eyebrows perk up.
"No, it's okay. I don't want to ask you for anything," I sigh. "I can't be that fan that uses you for money instead of fame, now can I?"
"Oh come on. Don't let my brother's thinking get to you, now," Grayson chuckles. "And it's not a biggie. I don't use it."
"Thanks," I tell him. I glance over his shoulder and spot Ethan. "I think I'll make my way to my first class before the bells ring. The teachers here are really strict about tardies."
"But it's five minutes before class..." Grayson objects, but I turn away from him before he can convince me otherwise. Even with the people talking in the hallway, I can hear the mini conversation he and Ethan are having.
