"Wow, these singers are, um-" Mason started, sitting at a table with Lauren sipping her soda next to him.
"Intresting?" Lauren suggested.
"That's a good word for it." He replied.
The karaoke D.J took the microphone and screamed, "Who's ready for our Random Duet of the Hour?"
A small applause and cheers came from the crowd.
"Okay!" The D.J smiled. "If you are sitting at table number..."
"If he choses this table," Lauren groaned.
Mason looked at her with really big, lovey-dovey eyes. "He won't, trust me."
"Table number eight!"
Mason sneered. "I feel sad for those suckers"
"You idiot! We're the suckers!" Lauren said in a monotone voice.
"What?!"
The D.J. said, "Please come up here and sing us a song."
You know, I could sit here and have you read this entire conversation, but I'm gonna tell it how it happened:
MASON: Sir, we- we can't...
LAUREN: Yeah, dude. We suck..
DJ: Everyone here does.
AUDIENCE: *minor agreeing* yeah, true, yuss! true story.
DJ: You have to do it, um.\
LAUREN: I'm Dani, and this is my friend Eli.
DJ: Well, Dani and Eli, you must do it! God has spoken!
LAUREN (Under her breath): I'm Agnostic so...
MASON: We'll do it!
LAUREN: We'll what?
MASON: It's only a small song.
LAUREN *under breath*: (CENSOR CENSOR CENSOR) you dirty little (censor censor censor)
MASON: We pick number twenty-two.
D.J: Good choice, dude!
Trust me, it was a lot funnier then it sounds.
Piano flew in the background and the lighting on that stage totally changed into a romantic feeling.
Lauren glared at Mason as she began singing:
"Making my way downtown, walking fast, faces pass as I'm homebound."
"Staring blankly ahead just making my way, making my way through the crowd."
Mason learned one thing that day: Hearing her sing, made it positive, he was in love with her.
"And I need you, and I miss you. And now I wonder..."
She stared at Mason, and Mason stared at her.
She always liked him. He was cute, funny and sweet. She always had a crush on him, but staring in those eyes she saw something else.
He just grinned as he pulled her wrist towards him and he slowly sang:
"If I could fall into the sky, do you think time would pass me by?"
"'Cuz you know I'd walk a thousand miles if I could just see you."
Lauren grabbed his hand.
If I could just hold you.
And they finally sang the last word, the most beautiful word at that moment, together.
"Toniggggggghhhhht."
By the time the song was over, they just stood there, gazing into each others eye smiling ear to ear.
Until Lauren had a quick mental freak out and pulled away and ran off the stage. "Well, that was fun." She told the DJ when Mason walked off next to her. "But we must leave now, thanks for the drinks."
Then she slugged her backpack over her shoulder and ran out of the building.
