We remained silent as time itself seemed to still around us. The sounds of the waves were overwhelmed by the sound of my breath and heart beating out of its cage like a trapped bird in pursuit of freedom. The grains of sand on his face contrasted to his complexion as my complexion turned redder. He smiled and went ahead to move the hair away from my face. My hands automatically adjusted my top. He gave out a laugh as I returned the smile.
Was it just me or did it seem like deja vu?
We were interrupted by somebody clearing their throat.
Skyler looked up and smiled.
"Hey Jen."
"Oh god the two of you," Jennifer giggled, "Don't worry, Aaron told me everything about you two. Shocking how April forgot to mention it to me."
Jennifer bent down and picked the Apple juice can out of my hand and walked over to where our loungers were set up.
"Oh dear, I'll have to explain it to her, before she starts assuming more stuff," I sighed.
"Nah, let it be." He said, his eyes not moving away from mine.
We chuckled lightly to ourselves. Skyler jumped up, patting the sand off his hands. I propped myself against my elbows as Skyler stretched his arms out to me.
"Are you alright?" He asked.
Those words rung in my ears, triggering the first dream to replay in my mind.
"Yeah," I answered, deciding not to mention the dream.
"Sorry," he suddenly said, just as I gripped his hand to get up.
"For what?" I asked, recalling the second dream.
I had goosebumps popping up everywhere. The thoughts of the dreams coming true, were freaking me out.
"For this," he replied letting go of my hand as I fell back into the sand.
"Goodbye," he laughed with a smug look on his face before bolting.
I was left stunned, rooted to my spot. Usually April would get back onto her feet and chase the guy who did that, but today I couldn't move a muscle. All his words referred to my dreams although the emotion behind each sentence was different.
Now that Jennifer had also come I had no time to keep her away from Jesse. Guess today would be the day they dissolved the cold war between them. I jumped up to my feet and ran in Skyler's direction. He had stopped running and was probably on his way to join the guys who were surfing.
As expected Jennifer had settled in one of the loungers with a hat and sunglasses sipping some shake that she probably got from the nearby shack. I decided to warn her beforehand about Jesse also having come. Settling into a lounge chair beside her, I broke it to her.
"Hey Jen, you can expect Jesse to come back from surfing any minute now." I ended awkwardly.
"What if I don't want to expect him?" She asked monotonously, not moving her gaze from that of the sea beyond.
"He's already here, so I guess you don't have much of a choice in that matter." I answered shrugging my shoulders.
"I know, he called yesterday." She replied in the same way.
Jesse called her?! That means she must know all about...
"I know that he spiked the drink intentionally." She scoffed.
I gasped rather audibly trying to make up for not having told her earlier.
"It was meant for me, but it went to you." She sighed, taking off her DKNY shades. "And you know the best part?"
