Harry walked out of the tower, hours later, with the biggest grin on his face. He walked down the halls covered in his invisibility cloak and grinned madly at everything he saw. What had come over Malfoy to have made him do that, Harry didn't necessarily care at the moment. His lips still felt hot from where Malfoys had been even though it had been hours since it had happened. He remembered his kiss with Cho and how unnatural it had felt, he wondered then if that was how all kisses felt and if he would just have to get used to the awkward feeling that it gave him. But no, this was different. It felt right, almost instinctive.
By the time he had gotten back to the common room, everyone was already in bed, even Ron and Hermione. And in a way, he was glad, He couldn't stop himself from smiling which would arouse suspicion. He climbed into bed but he did not fall asleep. His mind was too worried about what would happen next in their relationship if things would be different during school now, when he would be able to try and kiss him back, and why Harry hadn't realized how much he loved him in the first place.
The next morning, some, but not all of Harry's happiness had faded. He longed to feel Malfoy's mouth on his again. He lept out of his bed and greeted Ron with a smile.
He looked a bit confused at first but smiled back. "you're in a good mood today," was all he said.
"What's not to be happy about?" Harry strolled out of the room, ignoring the rest of Ron's questions.
During breakfast, he took frequent glances over to Malfoy, who seemed to be paying no attention to him whatsoever. He got the impression that just because he had kissed him, the way he treated him while others were around would be no different.
But that didn't stop him from staring. Even during potions he wasn't really paying attention to Snape. Malfoy, who was all the way on the other side of the room, was a lot of trouble to look at during that class without Snape noticing. And after a few successful glances over to the blonde, Snape had caught him.
"Something interesting with that corner, Potter?" He asked.
"No."
"No, 'Sir'" Snape corrected him.
"There's no need to call me 'sir', professor." The whole class erupted with laughter and he beamed with pride as Snape scowled at him. Putting Snape in his place felt good.
"You think you're so amusing, Potter."
Harry had received detention every night that week after dinner ended. Which made Harry feel quite dismal. He wouldn't be able to go and see Malfoy in the astronomy tower. Through his depression he went to Snape's dungeon every night that week, doing whatever it was that he desired that night, completing each task conclusively without any mistakes, hoping that Snape would let him out early so he could see Malfoy. Unfortunately, that did not happen and Snape kept him after so late that Malfoy was always gone before he got there.
After Sunday's detention, Harry started to get a little more hopeful. He was almost through. He sat with Ron and Hermione getting all of the homework he had had no time to do since he was in detention, done. His stack of homework had become mighty daunting in the past week and he began to loath Snape even more. He had kept him from homework and Malfoy.
Harry greeted Monday with great enthusiasm. He went through his day as normal, although feeling far from normal, and even kept his mouth shut when Umbridge said something that he did not agree with. He could not risk saying something that would end him up in detention for another week. It was extremely hard for him to do so, but he kept his mind on Malfoy and stayed positive.
That night he was too excited to eat, so he told Ron and Hermione that he was going to the library and left them after his last class. He waited in the astronomy tower for him. He heard, after an hour or so, footsteps below him and he suddenly became nervous, what was he even going to say when Malfoy got there? The door flung open and the blond stepped in with a scowl. Harry threw the cloak over his head to the side of the tower. His sudden appearance scared Malfoy so bad that he jumped back, hitting his back on the door.
"Merlin, Potter! Could've given me a warning-"
"Sorry, I was anxious to see you," He said not letting Malfoy finish his sentence. Malfoy raised an eyebrow at him and smirked.
"Miss me that much, huh?" He said cockily throwing a hand through his hair, " I don't blame you, what's not to miss?" He laughed, throwing his head back, Harry stared at the veins in his neck, perplexed by masculine collarbones. There was a silence after he had stopped laughing and they stared at each other.
"So, um...are you coming back to the D.A?" Harry asked, trying to start a conversation.
"No. I'm afraid not. Umbridge is keeping a closer watch on her inquisitorial squad. It was hard enough convincing her to let me come up here every night. She's really determined to catch you guys. You know, I almost gave you away. When we weren't talking. I almost told her where you guys were meeting and everything."
"But you didn't," It was almost a question, Harry couldn't believe it.
"No. I got over my anger with Hermione and Pansy."
"So, are you going to start talking to them again," Harry wondered if he should ask him to start talking to him in the halls again, maybe not conversations as much as taunts and insults, like what he used to do.
"Pansy, yes. Hermione, well it's not like I talked to her before any of this anyway."
"And what about me? I mean, just like in the halls and stuff."
Malfoy hesitated. "No one must know of this, Potter."
"Insults, Malfoy. Like how things were before."
"Well insulting you isn't hard"
"So yes?"
"Yes."
They continued their meeting in the astronomy tower every night after dinner. Making it a competition, to see who could get there first or who could scare the other one the worst. Outside of their meetings things went back to normal. Pansy no longer hung out with them as much now that Malfoy had started talking to her again, and he ridiculed or provoked Harry any chance that he got, and he fought back with even worse insults.
