Malfoy manor, a place of many terrible memories for Draco. Now there were even more. As he carried Harry's lifeless body down to the cellar. It was still hard to believe that what had just happened had actually happened. It happened so quick that it didn't feel real. Of course Harry's body made it feel real, the weight in his arms did not even compare to the weight on his heart.
"Trust me," Draco said over and over again as he carried him down the marble steps to the room Harry would be staying. He was unsure of whether Harry could hear him or not. Not that he would listen if he could.
He laid him on the ground, looking into his pale green eyes which fixed themselves on the ceiling, unmoving. He pushed his hair back to look at his scar. "I'll get you out of here. I have a plan."
"Draco!" a stern voice yelled from the hallway. He jumped.
"Yes?" he yelled back.
"The dark lord would like a word with you."
"Wish me luck," he whispered to Harry who just laid there, not even acknowledging that he existed, how rude. Draco scoffed and stood, closing the door behind him the man guarding the door locked it. He entered the drawing room, The drawing room was full of silent people, sitting at a long and ornate table. Illumination came from a roaring fire beneath a handsome marble mantelpiece surmounted by a gilded mirror. They stared as he entered and took a seat next to his mother.
Voldemort at the head of the table did not look at him, but spoke into his lap, "Draco, you did a most wonderful job today, although you failed to kill the headmaster, would you like a chance to explain yourself before suffering the price of failure?"
Draco stayed silent, his mother nudged him and he sat up straighter, "my lord, " he addressed him politely, " I did bring you Harry Potter. Isn't that good enough."
"Good enough? Good enough?" Voldemort laughed loudly, "you have failed! You are correct in that you have brought Potter to me, but you did not complete your final task. You must suffer for that. You must learn the consequences of your deficient abilities to obey my commands." The Dark Lord stood, signaling Draco to do the same. He whimpered and tried to forces himself out of his chair. I did not matter for the Dark Lord did not wait, "Crucio!"
Draco doubled over in pain, falling out of his seat, his mother screamed but didn't dare get up and try to help him. He squirmed in pain before relaxing again. He laid on the ground a few more second regaining his vision. He stayed on the ground and breathed deeply. His whole body had gone numb, he didn't think he would ever be able to sit up.
Voldemort laughed, throwing his head back. He danced around Draco a little before pointing his wand back at him, "Crucio!"
Another wave of pain hit Draco, this time he yelled out. His whole body seethed. When his body had recovered and he had started to relax again the Dark Lord spoke again.
"Who among you think it would be good for the boy to take another hit? Surely he hasn't learned his lesson yet," Voldemort looked around the room.
This time his mother spoke up," I think he has had enough, my Lord." She did not look at him.
"Does anyone else want to speak up? Lucius, how about you?"
"My Lord, the boy has not learned his lesson, he will feel greater pain in the future for not obeying you, teach him now."
Draco closed his eyes. He wasn't ready, he couldn't handle it another time.
"Crucio!"
He screamed the pain was intense, it was all-consuming. He though for sure that his body would burst. When the pain had stopped and his screams had ceased the Dark Lord spoke.
"You may leave now. We do not need you here any longer," Voldemort said. He tried to stand but his legs collapsed under him, his mother got up to try and escort him out the door but Voldemort hissed at her. "He must do it himself."
Draco couldn't help but get the impression that he was enjoying this. Once back on his feet, he limped out the door, endeavoring not to fall or to look as if he were too dizzy. Once out of sight from the other he fell to the floor and sobbed. Harry was going to die if he didn't do something fast, and it would be all his fault. But what could he do, there was no way he could get him out of here, no one would trust him near Harry, they all knew about their relationship. But he couldn't sneak him out either, he wasn't skilled enough to take down all the death eaters on his own.
Then a thought came into his head, Ron and Hermione!
He regained his balance, would they trust him enough to help. He would have to be mighty convincing. They were still probably at the school, but not for long. He would have to hurry. He exited the manor and walked out to the garden area. He apparated in front of honeydukes in the Hogsmeade village, this was as close as he could get to the school since you could not apparate into the building itself.
As he walked up the steps he noticed that most people were just now waking up, looking at the rubble caused by the death eaters moments before. He should be able to get past everyone who was not in the battle without drawing too much attention to himself. No one knew he was one of them or what he had done to Harry yet. The main battle took place in the great hall, which was where he guessed Ron and Hermione still were.
Sure enough, that's where they were. Ron was the first to notice, he got up angrily ready to strike him. Draco held up his hands to show that he meant no harm to them. "If you two care at all, follow me."
"We're not going anywhere with you, Death Eater! What have you done with Harry, he trusted you!" several people turned and stared. Ron pointed his wand at Draco's face.
"That's what I am here to discuss, If you care for Harry at all, please will you follow me."
Ron stayed put, it wasn't until Hermione spoke that he lowered his wand, "I think we ought to trust him, Ron, what other choice do we have?"
They followed him out of the castle and out to the edge of the forest.
"I have made a terrible mistake, I need your help to fix it. I was being selfish, only thinking for myself, I didn't want to die, so I obeyed Voldemort's orders and delivered Harry right to him. Now before you get mad and beat me up, I want to help you get him back. Let me rephrase that, I need you to help me get him back, out of harm's way. I don't have a plan, and I can't do it alone, which is why I came to you two. I need your help. Please, I care about Harry just as much as you, I can't stand being the one responsible for Harry's death. I would never forgive myself. Please, I need your help."
"Of course we'll help you, but how can we trust you?" Ron asked. "How can we trust that you're really using us to help rescue Harry and not lead us right into you-know-who's grasp, just like you did to Harry?"
"You can't. But I am your only hope in ever seeing him again."
