Saturday 5th January 2030
21:15Christine had just completed giving her statement to the officer that had responded. A ambulance had turned up to provide them with some form of care, which involved a quick check over and a reality check about their chances of being seen to, within four hours, at the hospital. It was definitely a discouragement technique they had started, due the hospitals being overrun.
'Samantha, if you can come over, please', the office called.
Samantha lifted herself off the wall, where she had been seated, she still had a silver foiled material wrapped around her, to ward away the chill. The paramedic had given it to her, before he left for his next call. Samantha had heard him say something about them being busier than taxis.
'First of all, I'd like to thank the two of you for waiting here and I can only apologize again for the time it took to respond, as you can imagine, things have been a little hectic tonight'.
'How long do you think it will take to find them?', Catherine asked.
'I'm afraid I don't know that. Your friends aren't the only abductions in the area tonight and....'
'There's been more?'
'I'm afraid I can't give you too much information, but yes, there's been a few and we are already looking into them. My guess is when we find the others we'll find your friends.'
'Not very comforting', Samantha said, taking a hold of Catherine's hand.
'I can't give you much more than that. I'm sorry girls. On a different subject, could we give you a lift home'.
'Thanks'
They walked back to her car. As they did, a call came through on the officers walkie-talkie.
'Yes, I've just finished up. Yes, that's right, I'm still near the station. Okay, be there shortly'
The officer turned back to the girls. 'Sorry girls, I have to go to another call. You'll be alright getting home'. She was telling them, not asking them.
Catherine stopped in mid-step, she squeezed Samantha's hand.
'It'll be okay Catherine'
'Someone will be in touch with you over the next couple weeks, to make sure you're okay', the officer said, 'and we know where to get hold of you, if we need any more information'.
The officer was in the car, with her sirens blaring before either of the girls could respond.
Catherine and Samantha watched her drive off, changing their environment into darkness. Catherine huddled up to Samantha.
'We should go', Samantha said, taking control of the situation.
The girls headed back, naturally heading in the direction of Catherine's home. They were quiet in their own thoughts for ten minutes.
Samantha wondered if she would ever see her friends alive again. She was also taking some of the blame on her shoulders. She had been the one who suggested they go out together. She was also the one who stated that everything would be fine, when Gulab had suggested the opposite. She cursed herself. Although she hadn't visited church for the past twelve years, she said a prayer, asking for the safe return of her friends.
