Chapter 9
We arrive at the port a short while later, where I then drive around to try and spot Jordan. I see him parked further down the pier, leaning against the Jeep. I drive up next to him and park. I turn to Aurora and start to poke her again. She groaned and flailed her arm at me to get me to stop.
"We made it. Time to get up." She sits up slowly and hisses when she shifts her leg around, before leaning back again and closing her eyes. I get out of the truck and walk around to her door where I call Jordan over. "Come help me! Aurora hurt her leg pretty badly." He jogs over and stops when he reaches where I am standing with Aurora's door.
"How bad is it?" He questions.
"Well, it got her enough that she couldn't drive after a while because of blood loss." I move closer to Aurora and unwrap the blanket slightly to show Jordan the wound. Multiple long gashes could be seen along her lower leg, still slightly oozing blood. The blanket had been dyed a deep red, a vast contrast against the green fabric.
"That does not look pleasant." He winces.
We turned when we heard Aurora mumble a quiet "Nooo... Really...?"
"This is going to make it difficult to get around now. I would say go back but the horde is probably still on the highway." I nod in agreement and scan the area around us. We were parked in a fairly large lot with a boardwalk in front of us and buildings to our left.
"Hey Jordan. Do you know of any buildings that might be good to check out? We shouldn't waste too much time now that Aurora is hurt." I look back towards Jordan, who is helping Aurora rewrap her leg. He finishes with Aurora, and then turns towards me.
"There is a gas station not too far from here, but this area is mostly office buildings." I sigh and nod my head.
"Alright, we should check there first. Just to stock up on any food we can find, and then head back to the house." I follow Jordan back to the Jeep, and open up the passenger door.
"Umm... I kinda still need help here y'know." Aurora calls from her spot in the truck. 'Oops' I close the door again and head back to Aurora to help her out. I put her arm around my shoulders and semi-lift her out of the vehicle, since she was still able to put pressure on her other leg. We then make our way over to the Jeep where Jordan is standing with the back door open. Aurora shuffles her way inside and puts her legs up on the seat. She then turns and gives a thumbs up.
"I'm good!" I close the door and we head back to our spots in the Jeep, Jordan in the driver's seat and myself in shotgun. He then starts up the car and we head out to the gas station.
We pull into the lot and stop beside one of the pumps. Jordan gets out and walks to the pump. "I'm going to start filling up the gas tank. You go inside and see what you can find." I wander into the store after making sure I have my axe this time, and start rifling through the isles. Realizing I don't have a bag to hold a surplus in, I only grab anything preserved, or with a long shelf life. Before I go, I decide to hop behind the counter to find a lighter or two in case we need them, and end up slipping on a puddle of water.
I land on my face. "Ow..." I moan. I lift my head, and spot a compartment under the register. I get on my knees and pull it open, revealing a type of shotgun and ammunition. 'Perfect!'
I rush outside with the food, hiding the gun behind my back. I tap Jordan on the shoulder. "What?" He asks.
"Guess what I found."
"Uh... a clown?"
"What? No. You're horrible at guessing."
He laughed. "Hey, I'm sure at least one clown survived the initiation of this whole situation. But either way, we know I probably won't guess correctly, so just tell me."
