Sophie sighed and wrung her hands.

She was pacing next to the bed Keefe was knocked out in, after a failed attempt at riding Greyfell.

She leaned over him to see if he was awake, and he chose that exact moment to open his eyes.

"Am I in Heaven?" He asked. "Because you have the face of an angel."

Sophie looked at him, exasperated.

"Yes I am an angel, and that line died with me on the day I became one."

"Geez, just trying to loosen up the tension," he muttered.

Sophie gave him a look.

"You wake up from a three day coma and you crack a joke?"

"That's how my logic works, sweetheart," he said, offering her a cheeky grin.

Sophie snorted, shaking her head at him as she slumped into the seat next to his bed.

"I didn't think you had logic."

"Burn!" Fitz said, coming into the room.

Keefe rolled his eyes at his best friend.

"Shut up, Wonderboy."

Dex laughed as he came in with Biana.

"I never thought I'd see the day!"

Fitz scowled, then grinned as he came up with an idea.

"Dexie, come hug me! Me sad wight now!" He said in a posh girly baby voice.

Dex's eyes widened in fear, and Sophie burst into laughter as Dex ran out of the room full speed.

Keefe raised an eyebrow.

"First you scare Sophie to death, and now him. Creepy creep creep," he drawled.

"That's because she was with the humans at that time! She had no idea!"

Fitz turned to Sophie for backup, but she just shrugged and spread her hands helplessly.

"He's right. For once."

Keefe whooped.

"See? Foster agrees with me! Wait what?"

Sophie laughed.

"Idiot," she said, poking his nose.

Fitz had been working up the courage to ask Sophie out when Keefe came in.

Not literally.

But ever since he came back from the Neverseen, he and Sophie had become inseparable.

It didn't take a Cognate to see they had feelings for one another.

So, instead, Fitz decided to become comfortable with being just friends and told Keefe about everything.

Fortunately, his best friend hadn't gotten angry with him.

He had tried to joke around, and that was working so far.

He remembered the day Keefe had started going to Foxfire again.

Whispers filled the halls, but they all stopped when Sophie came in.

She went to her locker, uncomfortable from all the stares, and got surrounded by her friends.

Keefe grinned lop-sidedly, going behind her locker door.

When she slammed it shut and turned around, she came face to face with a boy, grinning mischieviously.

"Hey, am I in-"

Sophie covered her ears and started running away.

"NO KEEFE! JUST NO!"

I nudged my best buddy.

"Who's the creepy creep creep now?"

Keefe grinned.

"Shut up."
