As Sophie became older, she got more attractive.
At least, that's what everyone said.
Her blonde hair cascaded down her shoulders, her eyes twinkling with colors and mischief.
And that also made more people attracted to her.
Such as Avery.
The stupid kid didn't even have the decency to try to make a good first impression.
Instead, he asked Sophie out by leaning on the wall beside her locker, and waggling his eyebrows at her.
"Hey, want to go somewhere, you know,"
Keefe didn't even let the guy finish his sentence.
"Please go, you're freaking me, and her out."
He then grabbed Sophie's arm.
"Come on, let's go."
Sophie followed him, confused.
Another kid was so nervous that he couldn't even talk straight.
"I, I'm D-Dylon, a-and I was w-wond-dering i, if you could,"
Sophie shook her head, pointing behind him where girls were looking on with envy.
"I can't, and I'm sorry, but I'm sure they would!"
Dylon nodded with wide eyes and went over to them, and Sophie to her friends.
She sighed and put her elbows on the table, rubbing her temples.
"Popularity catching up to you?" Fitz asked, grinning cheekily.
Sophie rolled her eyes.
"I just want it to stop."
"I don't understand why they do that if it's obvious you're not going to say yes," Keefe grumbled.
Fitz and Biana shared a knowing look.
Dex just gave a wry smile.
Sophie looked at them strangely before focusing back on her lunch, spooning some brattail into her mouth.
Keefe drove his fork into his mallowmelt with a bit more force than he had to.
An awkward silence filled their table, until Sophie broke it.
"So, what classes do you guys have next?"
"Empathy," Keefe muttered.
"Vanishing," Biana said brightly.
Fitz looked at Sophie.
"Telepathy."
Keefe scowled again, and Sophie reached over and gave his hand a squeeze.
Before they parted for their separate classes, Sophie gave Biana and Keefe a hug each, lingering a bit near Keefe.
"Are you okay?"
Keefe shrugged, pulling a face.
Sophie smiled and gave him a last squeeze before catching up to Fitz.
Fitz smiled slyly at her.
She raised an eyebrow.
"Why do you look like a werewolf who found his source of blood?"
Fitz frowned.
"What's that?"
Sophie shook her head, of course he didn't know.
