I shut my eyes in fear, trembling as I stood my ground.
If I truly was his soulmate would he hurt me?
His breathing was loud and harsh- the only thing that alerted me to his presence.
My eyes opened of their own accord as I felt his hand rushing to my face.
I braced myself for the inevitably slap that I knew was coming. My eyes snapped shut.
Suddenly his cold hand landed on my face... but it was gentle. A soft caress.
Shocked, my eyes opened and were confronted by his dark ones staring at me, intrigued.
His hand swept along the contours of my cheek and a shiver swept through my body. Oh, how I wished he would never stop.
"Oh, my little Maat," he whispered. I wished I could move away when his eyes suddenly took on a dark and dangerous glint.
"You will obey me at all costs or you will be punished. Trust me when I say you will regret your actions." His voice hardened and snapped me out of my trance.
What was I doing? Why was I giving in?
You will make him love you.
The voice whispered through my mind, a bitter reminder.
Suddenly I realised I needed this. I needed that. I needed him. But it was starcrossed.
It was obvious he would never love me and I had no clue how to make him.
I wanted to give up.
His dark eyes glared into my own lighter ones angrily.
His lips descended on mine passionately pushing against mine dominantly. All I wanted was to give in but I knew if I were too easy he would hold no respect.
I pushed with all my might until he stepped away, an evil glint in his eyes as he laughed.
"If I want you, I will have you."
His face turned from mine and he laughed before sweeping out of the room.
Where had I gone? Where has the strong warrior girl gone? I needed hope.
And then another idea came to mind. A better one.
Obviously my dancing had enticed but in the wrong way. I needed to show him I had equal intelligence, I was not just a doll like his other wives, I was an equal partner that could complete him every way including intellectually and physically. Not only could I think well but I could also fight well.
If I fought I would win. I always won and I wasn't about to stop now.
I needed to prove myself an adequate partner but I had no idea how.

The garden was fresh and the green plants swayed softly in the wind.
I had decided to leave my plan be for the moment.
A tall servant scurried towards me, fidgeting.
I tried to hold my laugh in at how uncomfortable he was and listened to his stuttering voice.
"Your armour is ready and we have found you a sparring partner, your majesty."
A yip if delight shot through me and I smiled excitedly. Finally something I enjoyed.
"Thank you!" I told the servant, bowing as I tried to contain myself.
"Ahh, what do we have here?" a sneering voice came from behind me.
My back jerked stiff and I twisted around as fast as lightning to find out who had the audacity to insult me.
"Isetnofret," I whispered. It had been a long time coming.
She ignored my voice and raised her head, snapping her fingers at her servants who quickly shaded her.
"Armour? Whatever for? Don't tell me you are scheming an assassination?" her dark eyes glinted malevolently.
My back shivered when I realised what she was insinuating. If anyone expected me of what she said the punishment would be worse than death, it would make me wish for death.
"What do you take me for, an idiot?" I asked angrily, storming away and holding in my deepest fear.
The servant hurriedly followed, bowing to Isetnofret before racing after me.
"Take me to this sparring partner immediately," I snapped, meanly taking my anger out on him.
"Yes, your majesty," he replied meekly.
I followed, a strong stride in my step until we crossed an empty courtyard where the servant stopped.
"Where is the sparring partner I was promised?" I asked, annoyed.
A sharp intimidating laugh cackled from behind me and I immediately spun around, face to face with the one and only Pharaoh.
A loud gulp swept through my throat at his earlier promise and I steadied myself, my head raised high.
"If you wish to spar you will spar with me," the King's eyes darkened, displaying his imminent wrath.
A women's place was not to fight and my wanting to made me appear a rebel, and I could tell that this made him very angry at my pure display of disobedience.
He would beat it out of me, I could tell.
His eyes widened dramatically, "What? Scared? You should never have attempted this, you crazy woman, now I shall make you pay."
Suddenly I realised I wasn't wearing any armour and I had no weapon but a simple dagger, hidden amongst my skirts.
Ramses drew his sword with a sharp metallic clang and I shut my eyes and waited for the inevitable.
Another laugh sounded from wear he stood. "What? You thought I would fight a defenceless woman? Ha, no. Here is your sword, let's see if a woman can wield it."
Ramses gestured to the servant who had betrayed me. The servant smiled but I glared back as he turned and passed me a sword.
My eyes took it in and I scowled when I realised it wouldn't stand a chance. It was a cheap one, made of the simplest metals.
"Why do you hate me so?" I asked Ramses, he was always so rude towards me.
His dark eyes scowled menacingly at me. "I don't."
With that he rose his sword and I prepared myself.
