Since morning I had been sitting in my room listening to the beautiful chirps of the birds outside.
I seriously needed to pull myself together.
Stretching my arms and fiddling with my hair, I pulled myself up from where I sat by the window and made my way to the bed.
A game of Senet sat upon it staring at me daringly.
Time to get to work.

The woman sashayed into the room where we would be playing our game, a deep ruby headdress matching her gown.
Staring at her, my eyes lingered as I glared, grinning internally, knowing what I would soon do.
She was beautiful, tall and slim- I knew why he loved her more than the others.
She was the current favoured... Not for long.
It was time for a new queen.
The constant noise from around me went silent and I took a moment to look up.
There in the doorway was Ramses.
My heart seemed to have stuttered and I forgot about Isetnofret and his other wives.
He was mine.
Just like her, he stood tall and strong in the doorway but this time many guards surrounded him.
My eyes took in his handsome form and a smile began to form on my lips as he glanced at me.
Tonight he would praise me as I won.
My smile faltered as he turned, ignoring me and stared at something else. What had I done? That wouldn't do, I had dressed up especially tonight.
Following his gaze, I saw what, or who it was.Her.
My thoughts turned sour. He didn't love her, did he? If he did, how could I ever make him love me?
No. It didn't matter, today I would make him love me.
Clattering from outside the room made everyone's attention focus on the door as a young boy ran in chasing a dog with a stick calling, "Daddy! Daddy!"
Everything went silent and I looked around confused as the servants began to glance between the boy and me.
Did I have something on my face?
Ignoring them, I looked over at the noise. The boy was ever so cute. Small with dark hair and tanned skin.
He ran over to Ramses. "Daddy look!"
Ramses smiled at him, "Quiet boy, this is important."
My heart sank. No way. How had I not hear of this before? Was Ramses already a father? Suddenly I didn't feel so sure of myself.
"Go to your mother," Ramses smiled.
His voice only assured it.
The boy whined and turned, running over to the woman in the ruby headdress.
This couldn't be happening.
It was ok to make him love me, but to make a man who already had a family have one with me and leave them in the dust? No way.
Why had I been cursed to this. I was alone in a foreign land and now I didn't even have this.
My cheeks reddened as I heard a servant scurry past me, gasping in a gossipy voice. "Look, she didn't know! Ha!"
Ignoring her I turned around and breathed in deeply. I could do this. I was the warrior princess and even this couldn't stop me. My thoughts went to my Empire and my father. For them.
Turning back, a fresh smile on my face, I turned towards the ruby woman and the women next to her who were all dressed more plainly, each sitting solemnly- his wives. I hoped I would never look like them.
Ignoring the stares, I laughed. "Right, who's first then?"
I could feel his gaze on the back of my head but I carried on with my task.
Beating these old harem housed girlies would be my pleasure.
"I am," a soft but secure voice said from in front. The voice I had dreaded and hoped not to hear.
The boy fidgeted on her lap and she gently set him down as I remembered the time I had met her in the gardens.
How could she act so caring now, yet so rude then?
I had a feeling it had to do with the man sitting on the other side of the room.
I bit my lip and forced another smile out.
"Of course."
The pressure was on and this time I didn't feel as confident as I had earlier and I didn't quite know who would win.
