Adora stopped suddenly, right at the edge of the line of bushes. Just as he was about to say something, his eyes caught a glimpse of over her shoulder.Gleaming in the light, was the reason they were here.
The dreaded Tesseract,
And boy was Steve happy to see it, for once. In almost every situation he had been in with the Tesseract, had gone wrong. Something told him this time was no different.
“You also forget you got something out of each time” Adora murmured in front of him, turning around to give him a smile. Steve’s expression softened, but his eyes still lay on the glowing four dimensional object in front of them.
“Should we go get it?” Steve whispers, wondering if they could take out the discreet security surrounding the Tesseract.
Adora shakes her head fiercely. “There’s no way. And besides, we’ve already ruined our cover here” she told him.
“Have you got a plan to get us out of here?” Steve asked, his eyes on Adora. He didn’t need to she her face to know she was grinning.
“Haven’t I always?” she replied playfully.
All of a sudden, Adora leaped out from the bushes, standing smack in the middle of the line of fire.
“Whew” She said, flipping her hair over her shoulder. She grinned at the men in front of her.
“It certainly is hot out here isn’t it?” she teased, and the men made no move. Why weren’t they firing? It didn’t seem like Adora was even in their minds, and this only stunned Steve at Adora’s abilities. He marveled at the fact that her beauty could cause them not to attack.
Steve watched as Adora stepped closer, smiling innocently at them. She was less then a foot away from man, and she smiled widely at him.
“I never heard you answer” she said to him softly, but her voice was low and dangerous. Adora touched his arm, and he fell to the ground. The other men stepped back, as if roused from their earlier trance.
Adora glared at them coldly, her eyes studying them.
“Let him be an example of what will happen if you don’t so as I say” She growled, gracefully slipping away from the man on the ground.
“Steve?” she called, her voice kinder. Steve stepped out from the bushes, the men immediately held up their guns, pointing at him.
“What did I say?” Adora said angrily, putting her hands out, and twisting them, each man falling to the ground.
Adora snapped her fingers, and one of the men stood up.
“Put on his clothes” she told Steve. He did as he was told, intrigued by this new side of Adora.
“We need to blend in if we’re getting out of here” she said, shifting into one of the men on the ground. She dragged his limp body into the bushes, and snapped her fingers again. All the men stood up.
They surrounded Steve and her, forming a facade almost. Adora marched them on, walking towards where an old-looking man was standing. He had partially gray hair, but his face didn’t show his age the way his hair did. He was dressed smartly in a crisp suit, and was speaking to the woman he had seen Adora as before.
“Fuck” he heard Adora mutter, obviously worried about the man he was looking at.
“Who’s that?” he whispered in her ear, and she shivered.
“His name’s Gideon Malik. He’s the current head of HYDRA, and he’s the one who’s running this whole thing” she whispered back, Steve nodded. He hadn’t realized how complicated HYDRA’s leadership has been. It only reminded him that things had changed since the 40s.
