*** Jeff's POV ***
Setting: Jeff (the young boy) has been walking home after class, along the busy street that has been covered with mirage of raging heat from the sun.
Today, my poor human body dies of El Nino. My overworked sweat glands are crying of perspiration in the mocking power of the Sun. They say that the Earth was strategically placed as the Third planet from our Sun, as it is the most conducive place where an ideal amount of warmth and temperature could suffice the occurrence of life.
Had it been moved closer to the Sun, the first germ like life form could have been toasted prior to reaching evolution, it could have not existed in the first place. Had our Mother Earth been moved farther from the Sun, the first life form could have been frozen in cold ice. This "strategic placement" of our planet is often associated with a "divine intelligence", as everything in our planet, from its place in the solar system to how all its Natural Laws create a balance in nature, could have not occurred just by "Chance" but there could have been "Someone" who have planned and hand crafted all the things we see and feel today.
But had this "Divine intelligence" also hand crafted "El Nino"? Did this "intelligence" not foresee the strong possibility of the occurrence of Natural devastating phenomena such as "Dr aught" and "Super typhoons"? Does the "Grand plan of creation" have flaws? Or are these really part of the "Grand Scheme of things"? Part of the "Balance in nature"?
The volunteers of the "Green Peace" foundation could say that the main cause of these "unforeseen" events is "man" himself. Global warming could have not existed, had man been morally aware of what pollution could entail. "We should not blame these to God", they say. "This is not a punishment from God but a result of man's irresponsible usage of his God given freedom.", they reiterate.
But if this is really a result of "man's evil deeds", why does it seem that the majority who are negatively affected by these evil acts are the innocent ones? Corrupt politicians, who tolerate illegal logging, factories and mining companies that butcher our natural resources, etc., enjoy the taste of a luxury hotel vacation, while their poor and innocent constituents die from Yolanda. Is this how the "Divine Plan" should go? Evil people triumph over good people's suffering? Good people dying of hunger and drought if not being victims of heinous crimes and everything insufferable?
Or maybe "Divine Intelligence" is just not an intelligent idea to dwell on? Yes this world is made out of the concept that "Good and Evil" does exist, but to associate all good things with a "Divine intelligence" and blame all bad things to the presence of "evil" might just be a lousy concept to base justice with. If there is a "Divine intelligence", everything could have been perfect, ideal and good. Evil could have not existed at all, if the "Grand plan" was to create everything according to God's "perfect plans". There should have not been any suffering, famine, pain and loved ones crying justice for a 12-year old innocent daughter's rape slay case.
They say we have "evil" in this world because the world we live in is "imperfect" and all our sufferings would be rewarded in a place called "heaven"; the paradise for the good men who'd suffered from the imperfect world. This is where everything is laid down in perfection. No more pain and suffering. No more El Nino. Just bliss. Eternal bliss. This is a chunk in the idea of a "Divine intelligence".
But why create an imperfect world, in the first place? For good people to suffer and await paradise after they die?
Today, my poor human body dies of El Nino. Along with it is the grudge that my skin holds, wet with all the bodily fluids that escaped my soul.
Today, I felt the wrath of a 40 Degree Celsius heat index. My body is wrapped in the fierce embrace of the outrageous weather.
This outrageous weather that gradually reaches my spirit's core.
This outrageous weather that I could either blame "Evil" or "divine intelligence" for.
Either way, it would not make my skin any dryer than this.
Either way, it would not make this air any colder.
Either way, it would not make things change.
It's just a concept.
It's just in my mind.
... in our minds.
-----------------------------------------------------
Let me blame El Nino for the lousy update this has been. Lol. I would like to touch base with the concept of "free will" and "freedom" in the next succeeding chapters, but this is honestly too complicated for me to establish a concrete view with. Kasamang nag-e-evaporate ng pawis ko yung brain cells ko, kundi man dahil sa El Nino eh dahil na rin siguro sa ka-salimuotan ng naisipan kong storya na itaguyod. Lol.
