At eight-thirty, I pulled into Cole's driveway. I wasn’t nervous. We'd been together alone at our houses multiple times. Why should now be any different? Who cares what they said at lunch; Chris was right. I should only do something because I want to, not because anyone else wants me to. Which is really creepy if my friends want me to do that. Just saying.
I got out of the car and walked up to his front door, knocking twice.
I looked really pretty. I was wearing dark jeggings, and navy racer back tank with a white and light blue-pinstripe band around the waist that tied into a bow in the front. The top entirely looked like it was made of lace, and the top of the back and straps was see through. I had on navy Steve Madden flats and my hair was curled in soft ringlets. My make-up was flawless and sparkly skin tones. My fingernails were painted fluorescent pink, and were the first thing anyone noticed when they looked at me. It was why I liked the color so much.
The door opened, and Cole smiled at me.
"Hey!" I said, smiling.
"Hey," he replied, grinning at me. He hugged me as I stepped inside, and closed the door behind me.
"Whatcha been up to?" I asked.
"That paper for social studies," he said.
"I haven't even started that yet," I said.
He smirked. "It's due Monday."
I smiled. "I know! I'm like the biggest procrastinator ever, didn't you know? I won't even start it until Sunday night," I said.
He laughed, shaking his head. "Do you want to go upstairs?"
"Fine with me!" I replied, and we walked upstairs.
I plopped down on the bed, and Cole smiled apologetically at me.
"Do you care if I finish? I'm almost done, promise," he asked, gesturing to his laptop.
I waved my hand. "I don't care! Just as long as you can listen and semi-talk at the same time," I said, smiling.
"I can do that!" he replied, sitting down at his desk.
"So did you and Peter finish his project?" I asked.
"Just barely. All he had done before I started helping him was his name," Cole said, shaking his head.
I laughed. "Oh my God! Did you do most of the work?"
"Actually, no. All I had to do mainly was glue stuff down," he said.
"Oh my God one time Nila completely forgot about this big social studies diagram and me and Ashleigh had to do all of it-" I stopped.
Cole looked over at me. "What is it?"
"Oh, nothing. Ashleigh and I just got in a fight today," I said, looking up at the ceiling.
"What about?" he asked.
I sighed. "So you remember the like, first day I sat with y'all and Ashleigh and Nila made me introduce them to you guys?" I asked.
"Yeah. Hey, why did you want to get away from us so fast?" he asked curiously.
I blushed deep pink. "Um, I didn't want to get away from all of you. Just… you," I said.
He laughed. "Why?"
I blushed red. "Um, because I thought you were really hot and sweet and you wanted to walk me to class and I was going to say yes but I didn't want to because you were so hot and yeah that's beside the point," I said in a rush. Over his laughter, I went on. "Anyway, we said something about Peter at lunch because somebody asked where you were and I told them you were helping him. And then Ashleigh said 'yeah he's cool'. And all I did was mention- like, I didn't even say HEY ASHLEIGH REMEMBER WHEN- I just mentioned when they first met and she got all pissed off. So when we were leaving she asked me why I said that in front of Lance and I asked her why she always says shit like that in front of you and she got mad and stormed off," I finished, feeling my earlier annoyance bubble up inside of me.
