Lily Luna stared at him in disbelief.
"You're not flirting? Not putting your feet up on the desk? Not asking girls out? Not hexing anyone? Nothing?!" she asked in disbelief. Charlie Ross stared at her blankly.
"Am I supposed to?" he drawled.
Lily slammed her head on the desk, smearing her forehead with the ink from her half completed Transfiguration assignment.
"You're supposed to be an arrogant git." she mumbled.
"I thought we went over this last week. You said I'd changed, remember?" Charlie replied, laughing. Lily cursed herself when she felt her heart flutter.
She remembered last week all too well. He'd asked her out, and although she fancied him, she didn't have the guts to tell him, so she made up an excuse at the last minute.
"It's still unbelievable." she muttered.
"About last week, the note I gave—"
"Ross, please." Lily interrupted. She didn't want to face her feelings.
"You can't run away forever."
Just then, Professor McGonagall dismissed them.
"Watch me." Lily challenged, storming out of the classroom.
Charlie sighed, running a hand through his golden curls. He noticed he was the last one left in the classroom.
"The Potters were always stubborn." Professor McGonagall began.
"I didn't ask for this." Charlie said, sighing deeply.
"The first I had, Fleamont Potter, was quiet, reserved, and quite intelligent. When he was determined, no one could stop him." she continued.
"The second, James Fleamont Potter, was arrogant, cocky, and full of himself. He chased Lily Evans for well over 3 years." Charlie grinned. That sounded quite like himself.
"The third, I'm sure you've heard of, Harry James Potter. He stood up to a cruel teacher in his 5th year.
"The fourth, Lily Luna Potter. I'm quite sure you know all about her story."
Charlie sighed and rubbed his temples.
"Why are you telling me this?" he asked.
"Charlie, she won't see things your way until she's ready to give up."
"I know, Professor." Charlie said, smirking and putting emphasis on the word.
"Go to class Ross," McGonagall said, a rare smile on her face. Charlie mock bowed before stepping out of the classroom.
~~~
"I can't believe you, Lils! I told you to confess!"
"And I didn't, Lucy! I didn't. I don't want to be with him."
"Yes, you do! Why is it so hard to admit it to yourself?!"
"Charlie Ross is a git." Lily spat. Her heart beat wildly in her chest.
"That isn't true, and you know it! I'm sorry Lily, we're best mates, but I'm siding with Ross on this one. You led him on, and then rejected him, and that's not right." Lucy said. She spun on her heel and walked away, leaving Lily standing alone in the hallway.
Lily sunk to the ground on her knees. This had been her first real fight with Lucy, and it hurt. It hurt her more than she'd like to admit. But most of all, it hurt because she knew that Lucy was right.
