"Lily." Remus said. She ignored him. He sighed. "Lily!"
Lily kept looking forward. Remus looked at his friend sadly. He knew how much James was tearing her apart.
"Lily, you're staring again." Remus said softly. She blinked and looked down at the blank piece of paper that was supposed to be her essay.
"Is this really how love feels?" she asked miserably. Remus threw an arm around her.
He'd always wondered why James had decided to do this. He'd been hopelessly in love with Lily, but then he'd gone off and dated Kylie, the exchange student from America. Remus stared at the two of them kissing and shook his head. Lily stood up abruptly and shoved her things into her bag.
"Let's go Remus," she snapped bitterly. Remus threw James a look of disappointment one last time and followed Lily out the door.
After he walked out the door and walked down the stairs hurriedly, he saw Lily standing still. He approached her slowly and pulled her into a hug right before she burst out crying. Remus was used to this. He knew after several years of being friends with Lily that she would always cry after being mad or upset. Remus heard his phone going off. He pulled it out and saw that it was Sirius calling.
"Hello?"
"Hey Moony—wait, I hear something. Is someone with you?"
"It's Lily."
"Is she crying?"
"Yes."
"Why? Oh wait, let me guess. It's Kylie again, isn't it?"
"Yes."
"Merlin, I hate her so much. Remind me again why Prongs decided to date her? Evans is much better!"
Remus remained silent for a moment. He remembered that James and Lily used to hate each other. After several years, they both developed feelings for each other. They flirted a lot, and everyone would say that they were going to start dating soon. Then, out of no where, Kylie came into the picture and ruined everything between them. James started to avoid Lily and hung around Kylie more. Then, one day, Peter accidentally walked in on them kissing and ran to tell Remus and Sirius.
"Remus? Are you still there?"
"Hmm? Err...yeah,"
"Anyway, I have to go. Peter wants to go buy chocolate or something. See you."
Remus's phone beeped, indicating that Sirius had hung up. He turned off his phone and walked back to Lily.

"A-and t-then he just started k-kissing h-her," Lily sobbed. Marlene stayed quiet and listened to her. She knew that when it came to Lily, the best kind of comfort was hugging her and not saying anything. When she was finished crying, she wiped her tears away and stayed silent.
"Lily, do you still have feelings for James?" Of course, Marlene already knew the answer. She just felt that it would be best if Lily herself confirmed it. Lily remained silent for a while.
"No...I just...I don't like Kylie at all." Lily replied. Marlene didn't buy it.

After Marlene left, Lily was filled with guilt. She'd only told Marlene half the truth. It was true that she didn't like Kylie, but she was still in love with James. Kylie had always been mean to her. She would bully Lily, both verbally and physically, which was something that not even Marlene knew, even though they'd promised to tell each other everything when they were 4. She remembered the first time she had met Kylie.
"Hey James!" Lily said, catching up to him. He looked at her.
"Hey gorgeous, didn't expect to see you here." James said, winking at her. He took her hand. They'd always flirted with each other like this, but they'd never dated.
"Well Potter, you aren't so bad yourself, but I have to say I'm the better looking one."
James rolled his eyes and looked at her in disbelief. Lily giggled. Just as James was about to retort, they ran into a girl. She had long, curly black hair and dark blue eyes. Her skin was tanned.
"Look at you two, aren't you just adorable." the girl said, pinching Lily's cheek with her abnormally large nails. Lily winced and rubbed her cheek.
"We're not dating." James said.
"But you're holding hands." the girl argued. James let go of her hand. Lily felt as if her hands were left cold and empty.
"We're not dating." James repeated.
Lily frowned. James typically didn't let his actions be controlled by anyone. What made this girl any different? The girl grinned triumphantly. Lily rubbed her cheek again. The girl began to walk away. When James saw Lily rubbing her cheek, he frowned.
"Hey---" he called out.
"It's Kylie. I'll be back here tomorrow. See you there." she said flirtatiously. Kylie walked away, leaving James gawking at her and Lily wrinkling her nose in disgust.
