(A/N ~ This is separate from all my other Lily and Charlie stories btw, kind of like how I have a different Jily scenario with each one shot. Enjoy!)

Hugo laughed. "Yeah, I know, she'd probably never look at someone like me, but I can dream, can't it?"

"Nah mate, I think you've got a chance." Charlie said, a grin on his face. Hugo rolled his eyes.

"Really? Because I'm pretty sure she faints every time she looks at you."

"How would you know?"

Hugo rolled his eyes. "Because every girl faints when they look at you. You're every girl's dream or whatever."

Charlie wrinkled his freckled nose.

"So, who do you fancy?" Hugo asked jokingly, although he was truly curious. After all, he practically had all the girls at Hogwarts fawning over him. Charlie shrugged.

"Just...some girl." he muttered, hoping Hugo would drop the subject.

"Come on, if she's got your attention she can't just be some girl." Hugo argued. Charlie's cheeks turned red.

"Well, no."

"Come on! If you won't tell me who, then at least describe her."

Charlie sighed and ran a hand through his golden curls. "Fine. She's really smart, always paying attention in class. She's gorgeous, really. And every time she looks at me, my heart goes crazy. And...she would never feel like that about me."

Hugo tried to keep his face straight, going as far as biting his lips down with his teeth for a full minute, but he burst out laughing. Charlie rolled his eyes.

"You asked me to tell you this so you could laugh at me?"

Hugo shook his head, still laughing. "No, no, it's just...listen to yourself. 'She's gorgeous, really. And every time she looks at me, my heart goes crazy.'" he mimicked in a high pitched voice.

"And?" Charlie asked, annoyed.

"And she would never look at you like that?"

Charlie shrugged, stuffing his hands inside the pockets of his jumper. He moved closer to the fire as he was freezing.

"Okay, is she in Gryffindor?" Hugo asked.

"Why are you so curious?" Charlie asked.

"So I can use it to blackmail you." Hugo said sarcastically.

At that moment, Lily walked into the common room.

"Hugo, have you seen my jumper? You know, the one Grandma for me this year? It's missing."

Hugo shrugged, his eyes still on Charlie.

"You have to tell me! I thought we were mates!"

"Tell you what?" Lily asked curiosity. Charlie's heart fluttered.

"Who I fancy." he replied casually.

"Now this I want to know." Lily said, smirking.

"No!" Charlie yelled. He cleared his throat. "I mean no, I'm not telling either of you."

Hugo pouted, but then froze.

"Wait...wait a minute...it's not...is it?"

Charlie gave him a bewildered look.

"It is! Really?" Hugo asked, cocking his head to the right.

"Shut it." Charlie muttered, knowing Hugo had guessed correctly.

"I mean, well...no, it's not...just...really? I thought you were kidding!" Hugo stammered.

"I was! But then...I dunno, then I wasn't." Charlie said, his freckled cheeks turning pink.

"Aww, is someone in love?" Lily cooed, although she couldn't help but feel a tad bit jealous.

"No!" he argued.

"Want to know what he said?" Hugo laughed.

"'She's gorgeous, really. And every time she looks at me, my heart goes crazy.'" he mimicked, at the same time Charlie yelled, "No!"

"Charlie, I won't judge you if you tell me. I promise." Lily said honestly.

"Charlie? So he's not Ross now?" Hugo teased.

"Oh now you're just being cruel." Charlie muttered miserably.

"I won't tell anyone! I'll even do the Unbreakable Vow if you want me to." Lily said. She didn't know why she was so desperate to find out, it was only going to hurt her in the end.

"Yeah Charlie." Hugo said, nudging him in the ribs.

Lily wished he would just tell her. She could at least know then who he had feelings for, which would hopefully end her feelings for him.

"Is it Maxine?" she asked flatly.

"Of course it isn't, Lily." Charlie replied, his heart beating just a little bit faster when he said her name.

"Oh, because I reckoned—"

"She threw you into the Black Lake last month, called you a 'filthy half-blood,' insulted your grandmother for having been muggleborn, and called your grandfather a blood traitor. Did you think I didn't notice?" Charlie said heatedly. The thought of that day still disgusted him.

"I got in detention with Professor McGonagall that day for fighting back, and you defended me and said that she'd set me off. She didn't punish me once you encouraged me to tell the truth." Lily remembered.

A knot formed in her throat, choking her. It wasn't fair. It just wasn't fair. He acted like he liked her sometimes, but she knew it wasn't true. It was as if he were trying to hurt her.

Hugo's eye twitched slightly. Both of them were incredibly smart yet incredibly dense. He shook his head, sighing.

"I'm going to go and steal Lucy's homework again. That ought to be more interesting than this." he muttered under his breath, leaving the common room.

Lily looked at the floor and then up at Charlie.

"I have to tell you something, and if you never speak to me again afterwards, then I won't blame you." Lily spoke. Charlie's green eyes met her, and she felt chills run up her spine before beginning to speak.

"I fancy you, Charlie Ross. I fancy you, and it bloody hurts seeing you with anyone else, and knowing you have feelings for someone other than me, because although I know you aren't doing it on purpose, it tears me apart."

Her lip trembled, and she ran out of the common room.
