Chapter 29

I weakly stood up and tried to get a closer look. No way it was Patena. It couldn't be. She was at the prison, resting in her cell. Peacefully. Alive.

I hear a second door open. I saw some light shine through, Jordan's reflection was given life from the moonlight. Before she got any closer I walked back and ran. A rush of adrenaline filled my body. I leaped on her, sending her back tumbling.

"How did you-" she started, but before she could finish I strangled her neck. Her right arm started to reach for her knife which was strapped on her side. Before she could though, my right leg kicked her arm away and held it into place. As a last resort, she pierced my wound with her finger. I let out a loud groan, the pain was too much for me. But I couldn't let her beat me. I tried to strangle her tighter, the moonlight shone on her red face. She stared at me with black eyes, her lips formed into a slight smile. Finally she gave out and I felt as her force left her body.

"Tough luck princess," I said mimicking.

I quickly stood up and searched her for my knife. It was tucked into her black boots. As I was getting ready to exit the building, I felt what was left of my humanity kick in. I closed the door behind me, and tried to make out where I was. I scavenged for at least ten minutes until I made out a similar path. Luckily I had only seen three walkers, but I outran them all.

After finally finding an open area, I laid my eyes onto the place I had now called home. The prison laid in front of me, and I used up all the energy I had left to get in. I found the spot Jordan had cut up earlier, and passed myself through it. Once I was halfway through the prison's yard, I heard a similar voice yell out to me.

"Meslie!" And with that, the tower's top door shut closed. Not too long after, the bottom door opened and out came Carl. I weakly dragged myself towards him and locked him into a weak hug.

"I'm home."
