~Maddie's POV~
Mitch, Jerome, Ryan, Lachlan and I were finally taking a break from the tireless shopping to have a good Chipotle meal at the mall's food court.
Ryan, Mitch and Jerome were engaged in conversation while Lachlan and I sat quietly across from each other.
Once in a while I saw Lachlan stealing quick glances up at me, but I didn't look up. I couldn't look up. It would be so awkward if we made eye contact.
After that kiss, I avoided Lachlan as much as possible.
I wasn't mad at him for kissing me. I'm just confused with myself. Do I want him? Or do I just want to be friends?
There's a part of me that wants to get back together with him but then I'm reminded about that video and the thought disintegrates.
"Are you two done?" Mitch asked.
I looked down at my half finished bowl before looking over at Lachlan's. He; surprisingly, wasn't finished either.
Seems like neither of us haven't been paying much attention.
"No" I replied, picking my fork back up.
"Me either" Lachlan chimed in.
"Okay, when you two are done, come and find us. We will just be walking around the area" Mitch suggested; picking up his tray.
As the three of them made their way towards the garbage cans, Ryan nudged my arm.
I looked up at him as he followed behind Jerome. He winked at me.
A sick feeling settled in the pit of my stomach.
They planned this. They wanted Lachlan and I to be alone. Those little shits.
I returned to my bowl.
The tension at the table was unbearably awkward. I honestly just wanted to finish my bowl and get the fuck out of here.
"Maddie" Lachlan called out, breaking the silence.
"Don't talk to me."
He let out a frustrated sigh. "Why are you mad at me? You'd acted as if I'm not even there the past few days. If anything I should be mad at you" Lachlan argued.
"You're the one who kissed me."
"You're the one who kissed back" Lachlan objected.
"But you can't do that Lachlan! You can't play with my emotions like that! We're not dating anymore. Friends don't kiss each other!" I exclaimed.
"Friends? I thought I was just your ex-boyfriend who cheated on you from across the world," Lachlan quoted, a smirk spread across his lips, "doesn't it have a better ring to it?"
I rolled my eyes at him. "I know what I said Lachlan. Don't need to fucking quote me" I spat, already frustrated with him.
Why can't he take this seriously?
"I know I don't, but getting a reaction out of you is satisfying" he chuckled, leaning back in his seat.
"You know what? Fuck you Lachlan. I thought you would want to have a criticized conversation but you're acting like a child. And honestly, I can't get back together with a child" I snapped, getting up from my seat and gathering my garbage; sashaying away from the table.
I had only made it a few meters away from the table when Lachlan grabbed my wrist, causing me to turn around and face him.
He grabbed the tray from my hands and set it down on a table beside us.
"Look, I don't want us to keep on arguing like this. I miss you and I can't go back to Australia knowing that you still think I'm a fucking douchebag. I'm sorry I cheated on you, I really am but I'm not going to let this relationship end here. I still love you Mads" Lachlan ranted, looking into my eyes with a serious expression.
"I still love you too Lachlan but," I looked away, "how can I be in a relationship with someone that I can't trust?"
"I don't expect you to trust me Mads, especially not after I did but all I'm asking is for a second chance. A chance to show you that you can trust me again. A chance to show you that I can still be the guy you fell in love with 9 months ago. A chance to let me love you like I'd always have Maddie. Please?" he pleaded, pulling both of my hands into his and giving them a light squeeze.
I looked down at our hands. My eyes fell onto the brown wool bracelet and the metal plate with a arrow going through a heart. Our matching bracelets.
Oh come on Maddie. You know you miss Lachlan. You haven't moved on. If you did then you would have taken off that stupid bracelet. But you haven't. Why? Because you still want this relationship to work out.
I let out a deep sigh. "I guess a new beginning wouldn't be bad" I shrugged casually, holding back the wide smile starting to form at the corners of my mouth.
Lachlan's eyes lit up instantly. "Really?"
I nodded, unable to hold in my smile.
Lachlan's mouth broke out into a smile as he pulled me into a tight hug.
"I promise never to let you down again. Love you Mads" he mumbled into my shoulder as we embraced.
"I love you Lachy."
