"Kid your lucky we're open 24/7." A man in his twenties said leading Marcus through the maze of storage units. "Then again I'm lucky anyone came by so late. This job can be so boring and nothing ever happens."
"I wish I had a normal job like this." Marcus said.
"Normal job?" The man asked rubbing hid tired eyes from work the night shift. "What job do you have now?"
"I'm currently training to be a Soldier." Marcus said.
"Damn," The man yawned. "I guess I should count my self lucky. Lord knows I would die the second I stepped on the battle field. What you going for?"
"Pilot for a Golem," Marcus said. "My father is forcing me to become like him and my older brother."
"I'm glad I was here when you showed up." The man said. "This code you brought me belongs to a storage unit that hasn't been opened in many years. Probable was locked up before you, or even I were born."
"Wouldn't surprise me," Marcus said. "What ever is in here belonged to my grandfather."
"Well I'm curious to see what's in there."
"Stick around and you'll find out." Marcus said as the turned to a new row of storage compartments. "These units are large."
"You can store almost anything here." The man said. "The one we're looking for is at the end of this row."
A gust of wind wiped against Marcus making him shiver. He had managed to find an old shirt to cover himself before he arrived at the Storage Unit but he was soaked due to the still pouring rain. They made it to the old storage unit and the man entered the code Marcus had given him into the unit's keypad. Suddenly the large door on the unit opened. As the door lifted into the air Marcus stared in amazement at what was inside.
Moldy boxes were everywhere, but that's not what caught both Marcus's and them man's eyes. An original series 5 Golem sat inside. It's white paint hadn't faded even a little bit, no rust covered it. The thing looked as good as the day it was built.
"Holy crap." The man gasped.
"Hey," Marcus said. "What's your name?"
"Mike." The man replied.
"Alright Mike," Marcus said. "Do you think you can get this Golem to platform 3v-0."
"Sure," Mike said. "But you'll need to pay for it."
Marcus had plenty of money. The only good thing out of being a pilot to Marcus was the pay. After giving Mike the money the man left to call a tow truck. After the man had left Marcus wondered through the Storage unit. A few of the boxes had been left open and Marcus peered inside them. In one he pulled out an old photo. Three kids about Marcus's age standing next to their Golems. The one that was his grandfather had his face torn off.
Placing the picture back Marcus dug deeper into the box. After a minute he pulled out some old clothing that must have belonged to his grandfather back in his pilot days. A night black and red coat with matching pants. Marcus quick tried them own and found they fit perfectly. Marcus turned to the Golem and smiled.
"Tic," Marcus said. "This was the thing my grandfather wanted me to have isn't it?"
"Yes," Tic replied in Marcus's mind. "You see he was the first person to ever pilot a Series 5 model Golem. The original Golems were harder to pilot then the ones used today so they needed more skilled pilots. Sad thing is with the way the Golems are built now a skilled pilot can't pilot it for some reason."
"Is that even possible?" Marcus asked. "Not being able to use something because your to skilled at it?"
"It is," Tic said. "Your grandfather tried to pilot a new model once. Nearly killed himself. I have a feeling your the same way."
"Maybe," Marcus said not really believing he would do any better with a new Golem. "Does it have a name?"
"I believe your grandfather called it Cyclone." Tic replied.
"Cyclone huh?" Marcus said. "Cool name. Let's get going I need to get back to the hotel before everyone gets up."
******************************************************************
Marcus made it back just before everyone was to get up. He placed his grandfather's old clothing in his bag along with the picture and drawing he had taken from his house before it was blown up. After taking a shower Marcus threw on his school uniform and left for breakfast. They continued their educational field trip until around six P.M. the went to platform 3v-0 to get on their shuttle and head back to the academy.
As they arrived on the platform all the students and Ms. Gear stared amazed at the old serious 5 Golem that was there. No one knew it belonged to Marcus or that it was going with them. When they got on the platform Mr. Clay and Mr. Frank had to stop Ms. Gear from jumping on the Golem.
"Let me go!" She yelled. "Do you two know what that is? It's an original Series 5 Golem. There are only ten in the whole universe! I need to see it, touch it, study it!"
"You'll get you chance." Marcus said. "After all it's coming with us."
"What?" Ms. Gear, Mr. Clay, and Mr. Frank all asked together.
"Marcus," A man called running at them. "Your Golem is here just like you wanted."
"Thanks Mike," Marcus said. "Here's the rest of your pay."
"Thanks kid," Mike said. "Stop by when your in town. You can tell me about how everything in the army went. Try not to get killed."
"Will do." Marcus said waving goodbye. "Now then, shall we go?"
The shuttle's cargo bay was big enough to hold the Golem so once it was in all the students and teachers got on and left the planet. So much had happen in two days. Now Marcus had the power to find the man who killed his grandfather, but who said he would like what he finds in the coming future?
