My Last Words to You

Every memory has a chance to fade
Like the shifting shadows of a sycamore's shade
But I'll remember you after each decade

In seventh grade I hadn't heard of your fame
Which became a serious shame
Considering the fact I feared your last name

Before the school year began I was tense
And until school started I was kept in suspense
While my great friends laughed at my expense

I shouldn't have judged a book by its cover
Because only you pushed me to discover
My poetry's potential, my fellow book lover

And even though I feel we rarely spoke
You always gave me a persistent poke
To finish work when I was about to choke

All I can give you is my gratitude
In surreal and humongous magnitude
You changed my school life with just your attitude

So on the day you weren't here I was filled with fear
That you wouldn't finish the entire year
And that they had already killed your career

But when you came back I was filled with delight
Even though you confirmed my fright
I was happy to see you after the spawn of daylight

If these are my last words to you
I promise with all my heart they're true
Because I will always remember you
