In the beginning, there was nothing. Okay, I was four with a Disney Princess themed room with a chandelier and a TV. I thought that I was unstoppable and the world was just fine. Well, I thought wrong.
This was my mom and dad's first house together. They were living in an apartment before, so they were real excited. Things weren't going so good, so Mom wanted to get some help from the local pastor. Dad didn't care about her like she wanted him to. When Mom was at work on a Sunday, Dad took us away from her.
Dad filed for divorce that following Monday, the next day. At that same time when Dad was getting a divorce, his girlfriend at the time, Rose, showed up to Mom's work, saying he was divorcing her. It was a dark time for all of us.
No one was home at the time my childhood burst into flames, because of a fire. By an electrical problem. With a gas furnace. Yeah, a bad combination. Dad and my sisters ended up living with our grandma, whom we call "Nana," at her house, where I had a bubblegum pink room.
My mom's mom, Grandma, had a friend that used to babysit us when we were little. Susie was her name. She always took us out for pizza at Pizza Hut. She died eight years later.
My dad got a new girlfriend in 2007. Lenetta Konys. She lasted for five years. She was nice for the first year. 2009 changed everything, but I will get to that later.
My brother, Samuel Robert Charles Kuhlmann, was born in 2008. He has autism and is so adorable. He was so small when he was born. You could lay him on your arm and his legs wouldn't even reach your elbows. He also had a feeding tube and was in the NICU for three months. He was the sweetest little boy ever with his red-brown curls.
Well, so far, it's not too bad. But it's coming. Just you wait.
