Dark Nights

Jesses PoV:
I looked at the floor rubbing my arm and recalling the events that happened in the last half hour.

It all happened so quickly...

Olivia and axel were walking in front and axel had his arm around Olivia as she sniffled; still shocked at what she saw.

I turn back and see Lukas looking at the grave we put Reuben in. He had his hands in his pockets and was scraping the ground with his shoe.

He looked back at me with his dreamy, blue eyes and I quickly turned around; hoping that he didn't see me staring.

"You okay?" I hear axel ask in front of me.

I looked up at him and nodded.

I wasn't.

Petra looked at me. I knew she knew I wasn't okay. She put her arm around me and I rested my head on her shoulder.

Petra was like a sister. She was caring, kind but protective all at the same time.

We reached our treehouse and I said goodbye to Petra, hugging her like it was the last time I would see her.

I flopped onto my bed and lay there, looking up.

There was no way I was going to get to sleep just after what had happened.

I walked into the living room and grabbed the blanket that was draped onto the sofa.

I wrapped it around me and I climbed up the ladder to the top of the tree.

I lied on the tree; snuggled in the blanket.

I looked up at the stars in the night sky.

Why did you have to leave?

I felt a tear run down my cheek.

Then a hand stroked my cheek, wiping the tear away.

"Not getting upset again are you?" I hear a voice say next to me.

I sit up and see Lukas. He looked at me smiling but concerned.

I wrapped the blanket around me tighter.

I knew he was looking at me - even though he was sat leaning back on his arms.

I looked at him and we didn't speak; we just stared.

"I love your eyes"

Wait did I say that out loud?

I start to blush but he smiled and laughed.

He moved closer and put his arm around me. I lay back with him and feel my eyes getting heavier so I rest my head on lukas's chest and slowly drift off to sleep.
