Chapter twelve

Darius' PoV

We eat the rest of breakfast enjoying light chatter, I can see that Rick is still upset but he's putting up his usual front, so as soon as he leaves the table I follow him. I grab his arm and pull him to my room "spill!" I demand and he doesn't even pretend to try hide it. He knows I'm the one that he always lets loose in front of when he has a problem. I don't think he even lets Theo see the vulnerable side of him as openly as I've done over the years. He sighs "I know it's stupid but I feel like I'm loosing a part of myself. I feel like he won't need me anymore and it hurts".

I sit on the bed next to him and he places his head on my shoulder "your his parent Rick, he'll always need you and want you around. What your feeling is normal for a good parent, you want to protect your child. Listen to me he's not moving in with just anyone I'm your best friend and we are one big family so we'll never drift apart. Look at how much everyone has done for me over the last few days, who would ever give that up" he smiles. We sit quietly for a few minutes until he asks "so what are you going to do?" My stomach knots but I've reached a decision so I tell him, "I'm going to see them today. Will you come with me and Ben. I need the two most important people in my life with me".

He looks up at me and I can see how honoured he feels by my statement, "don't look so shocked man. You and your family, no, our family mean the world to me and I don't say that lightly. You and the boys, then the new troops that joined us, have always been there for me and I know you'll help me through this too" he nods and replies "of course bro, now that's decided lets go make arrangements yeah". We open the door and Theo is sitting across the hall he jumps into his boyfriends arms "are you ok sexy boss man. Did your best friend help?" He questions. I leave them to talk.

I return to the kitchen and rope my arms around Bens waist kissing him lightly on the lips "I told Rick and he agreed to come along" Ben nods "I guessed he would. Do you want to tell the others" I tell him I do. We turn around as Rick and a flustered looking Theo come back in the room. "Guys!" I half shout, what? they're loud "I've decided to meet with them today, I discussed this with Ben this morning but didn't make my final decision until Rick agreed to come along. Thanks for being here for me I really appreciate you all" they smile and nod.

"I'm glad you decided to go. You need answers and you can decide from there on what you want. None of us in this room has had a conventional family life but just remember you have us you don't need them. It would be nice to see you reconcile though" Noel says and I can tell he is referring to his upbringing. Having been raised in an orphanage, he feels the missing connection that he's needed all those years within this family, like the rest of us. Truth be told Ben and Kate have had the most normal upbringings out of all of us even if it wasn't easy or conventional. "I agree with bunny just because he's sexy". Rob blurts out in his usual brash style and we laugh.

Ben leaves to call Ramos, who I know calls everyday. He's smiling when he comes back but I don't ask why. I don't want to know my brothers reaction to the news I'd meet them, I don't want anything influencing my decision to hear them out. "They agreed to come here. I hope that's ok with you love. I wanted you to have privacy and those hotel walls are pretty thin" Ben frets over his decision but I'm glad he was insightful enough to think ahead. If things get heated I would rather be here and that also gives me the power to throw them out if needs be.

We lounge around until they arrive. Theo and the others go to the cinema room to watch a movie while we talk, refusing to leave and I appreciate it. My stomach twists and turns when the knock comes to the door and Ben answers it. They enter the room and look at me in awe. It's making me uncomfortable "why are you staring at me like that?" I ask. Ramos answers "we've missed you so much. We've been searching for you but you changed your last name" Ben and Rick gasp. "I'm sorry I never told you, can we discuss it later" I ask them, they nod because there are more important matters at hand.

"What do you want" I ask coldly. "We're sorry we didn't stick up for you that day. He was so enraged and and we were so shocked that you were gay we froze. We didn't care that you were gay I am too and Ramos knew and accepted me since we were twelve." Sophia tells me and I'm the one who's shocked now.
