"'Ello, Miss Faye."
He smiled at her.
She almost smiled back.
Almost.
"How'd you get my phone number,
and my name?"
"Ryder gave me your number
and your name,"
he explained, smiling.
"Why did he give you my number?"
He shrugged, still smiling.
How can someone
be so happy?
"Oh. Okay. Have you um...
studied for the test?"
"Er... no."
"I think you should."
He chuckled and was still smiling.
"Honestly, I think so, too."
"You'd better."
She began to walk away,
y e t a g a i n .
"Wait Faye!"
He grabbed her wrist,
stopping her.
"Are you okay?"
She snatched her wrist away
from his grasp
and left him there.
[ What did I say to make her so mad at me? ]
