They sit there in the silence,
alone with each other
but at the same time
in the company of
a million stars.
"Cam?"
"Hm?"
He looked into her eyes and saw
the millions of galaxies
trapped in within her gaze.
She has the entire fucking universe
in the palm of her hands
and she doesn't even know.
"There's so many moments
I wish I could change.
Moments I wish I had seen coming."
"If you knew everything,
you'd be afraid
and spend the rest of your days
hiding."
"Better than having to deal
with the pain," she shrugged.
He held her tighter to his chest.
"Life's like that.
It cheats you and hits you
when you least expect it,
and you can't do anything about it.
It's been unfair.
I know they've hurt you,
but whenever life tries to get you
this time, I'll be there to protect you."
She moved closer
and rested her head on his chest,
on his heart,
and whispered, "Gosh, this is so cliché."
"Yeah?" She could hear the smile
in his voice.
"Yeah," she whispered back.
"I love you Faye."
She smiled back
and he swore the stars shone
just a little brighter.
