"Why are you still here?"
he asked, sitting next to her.
"Oh, I stayed at the library for a while.
You?"
"Soccer practice.
There's a game tomorrow.
Are you going to be there?"
"Yes,"
she said, smiling.
A grin was already etched
across his face,
but then again,
when was there not?
"So...
I see Dipshit is not with you
this afternoon."
She laughed,
and never has he been so delighted
to see someone so happy.
"I told you, his name is Noah,
and technically
it's already night,
but yes, he's not with me."
"Why? Cool Guy couldn't handle
a few extra hours
waiting for you in the boring library?"
She laughed.
"No, he said he had some stuff to do,
and what was it that you said
about the library?"
He chuckled.
"I honestly have nothing against the library-
I actually love reading.
I just figured
it was something he'd say."
"Right..."
she said, not sounding convinced.
"But if I were him though,
whatever that stuff is,
I'm pretty sure you're more important."
She
couldn't
breathe.
"Look Faye,
I really like you,
and Noah is a lucky piece of shit
to have you as his girlfriend."
She looked at his warm brown eyes,
and his stupid smile that was always there, then,
and she
couldn't
breathe.
"See you tomorrow,"
he whispered,
pressing a kiss to her cheek.
And with that, he left,
taking her breath away
along with him.
