"Why here?"
she asked as he parked his car
outside the local mall.
"Well, I was thinking that maybe
you'd want to buy yourself something,
like clothes or some shit.
I dunno. If you don't like it here,
we can go somewhere else."
he said rather nervously,
rubbing the back of his neck.
"No, this is fine, but I'm... kinda broke."
[ My entire family is kinda broke too. ]
[ Hell, we aren't even a family. ]
"Then I'll pay for everything.
Let's go!"
He pulled her towards the mall entrance,
smiling the Camden smile.
She followed him,
entering as he opened the door for her.
She rolled her eyes at him,
muttering about how "cheesy" it all was.
[ I loved it nonetheless. ]
He pulled her to a fancy-looking dress shop,
saying his mom always dragged him there with her.
As they entered the pristine little shop,
she could already feel the expensiveness
of the dresses that lined the racks.
"Pick one you want,"
he said, snapping her out of her reverie.
She gave him a questioning look.
"But these are so--"
"I told you I'll pay for it.
Now pick one."
He looked at her earnestly
and she nodded,
beginning to look around.
She spotted a cute blue dress
and took it from where it was hung.
"Now go and try it on."
She looked at him then like he was crazy.
"What? You have to try it on
before you buy it, obviously.
And besides, I want to see you in a dress."
"I'd look terrible in it," she stated.
"You don't even know that Faye.
Just try it on."
She stood still.
"Hey."
He looked her in the eyes,
gripping her shoulders.
"Tell you what:
if you try on a dress I will too."
She looked at him, amused. "A dress?"
"Yeah. Now go!"
She laughed
before heading into the dressing rooms.
