These are all separate parts but they're also pretty short. I'm neglected my homework for this so I hope you guys are pleased! I'm glad you liked the first one enough to request a part two because this was fun to write :) Thanks, and enjoy!
You didn't hate the clock quite so much, at least not until it had begun getting close to 00 : 00 : 00 : 00.
It was strange, because yours started counting down the day, no, the minute, you were born. That meant your soulmate was already alive. Your little sister used to tease that you had always been interested in an older man, but honestly you had never expected him to be....this much older.
You had been excited for years to meet this person. Most of your friends met their soulmates in their early twenties or even teenage years, but you didn't mind the wait. You knew it would be worth it, and you were excited. Until it was the last few months before it was time.
You had joined SHIELD, and thought maybe it would be a SHIELD agent. That wasn't bad, but then SHIELD went up in flames and you were almost out of work, until Natasha got the Avengers to recruit you. And you quickly became friends with them, until the Sokovia Accords was proposed.
Steve and Tony had ripped your family apart. You had been great friends with Sam, Wanda, and Clint, especially with Steve himself - and here they were, facing you and completely determined to fight. If you listened to your heart over your brain, you might have been standing with them instead.
But logically, you agreed with Tony. And so you made a difficult choice, that you realized had a much worse outcome as you met the eyes of Bucky Barnes across the airstrip.
Your mouth was agape for a moment, and you realized he had a similar expression on his face. It was him, of all the people of the damned planet. Oh, God. This can't be happening.
"Tony," you muttered almost too quietly to hear, uncertainty lacing your tone, "I-I can't do this right now."
"What the hell are you talking about?" Tony demanded, causing you to snap your eyes to him in a panic.
You opened your mouth but nothing came out, you just shook your head and took a step back. "I'm sorry, I need a minute."
Natasha's eyes flickered to your wrist, her expression going blank as she pretended as though she hadn't noticed. "Y/N, wait a second-"
You had already gone.
"Why did Y/N just leave?" Steve asked mainly to himself as he watched you charge away from the group and toward the airport itself, not realizing how tense Bucky was next to him.
"I have a pretty good idea why," Bucky muttered, but Steve didn't hear him as he turned to Sam.
"Sam, maybe you should pursue Y/N-"
"I'll do it," Bucky blurted before he even realized it, causing the rest of the group to stare blankly at him. "I mean, I'm the best bet. She's never met me, right, won't know I'm coming or what I even look like. Besides, don't you need a guy who can fly since most of their side can too?"
Steve gave him a strange look, but nodded stiffly. "Fine. Just...don't freak her out. She isn't a threat like the rest of them are."
Bucky didn't say anything, his heart racing as he went in the direction you had. He didn't know what he was doing, or what you were doing, but he had to get to you.
He found you more easily than he had assumed he would. You hadn't even gotten into the airport like he had thought; you were sitting stiffly at a bench, secluded from the view of where the fighting would happen. You were waiting for him, he realized.
"Did you know?" You asked as soon as he stepped up, but not making eye contact as you intently stared at the ground. "Did you know it would happen today?"
Bucky sighed, running a hand through his hair as he sat on the bench with a little space between the two of you.
"If I had, I probably would've chosen to stay at home."
You let out a snort, finally facing the man you were destined to be with forever. You knew about James Buchanan Barnes, of course you did - you had been a shield agent when he was the Winter Soldier. And of course, you knew ahead of time that you'd be fighting him. But he probably had no idea who you were.
"I'm Y/N," you finally stated, a strained smile forming on your lips, "It's nice to finally meet you, despite the circumstances being pretty bad."
He chuckled slightly, shaking his head. "You can call me Bucky. I'm pretty sure you already knew my name though, huh?"
"You're pretty infamous on my side of the street," you joked, discovering quickly how hard it was not to smile around this guy. And here you thought all the stories about immediately clicking with your soulmate were exaggerated.
"We're totally screwed, aren't we?" You asked after a moment of silence, "We must have the worst luck of anyone on the planet."
"Sweetheart, you have no idea."
"Do they know?" You asked, nodding toward where his team would be. Bucky shook his head.
"No, but I'm sure Steve suspects something. He was thrown off when you left your team."
You pursed your lips, "He knows I don't give up on anything once I have my mind set. He probably is suspicious."
"You knew him well?"
You nodded, sighing, "Oh yeah, all my friends except maybe Natasha are on your side. And honestly, if I chose emotionally over logically, I would be on that side too. It would've been a no-brainer if I was paying attention to this damned clock."
"You wouldn't have joined Stark?"
"I was looking for good enough reasons not to," you admitted, "This would have been a deal breaker, but I didn't realize. But signing the accords, I thought I was doing the right thing. But Tony has taken it pretty far."
"What are we going to do?" Bucky asked softly after a moment.
You didn't have an answer.
"What the hell was that, Y/N?" Tony asked once you had returned.
"I'm sorry," you said sincerely, knowing he would buy it, "Just seeing everyone we used to be friends with made me a little anxious."
His annoyed expression faltered, and you felt a little bad using the anxiety card, but he knew that you had problems with it just like he did. You knew he wouldn't push you if you mentioned it.
"Look, it's going to be hard, but I get it," he said in a quieter tone, "But remember you chose to do this with us."
"I know," you said, pursing your lips as you glanced at the other team, who were still standing there. Bucky had returned after you had, just like planned, and he wasn't looking suspicious at all. Must've been a good actor. "Sorry, Tony. I'm fine now."
"Good, 'cause the party's just getting started."
"You didn't find her?" Steve asked incredulously once Bucky had returned. "That was only ten minutes ago."
He shrugged, "I think I followed the wrong person for a few minutes and lost her. She must have gone somewhere else, but look, she's back with them now."
He might not remember anything, but he remembered enough about Steve to know he wasn't buying shit. But he masked it pretty well as he looked back at their team, seeing Tony and you talking to each other.
"It's time to get going," he said, glancing to the side at Sam.
"What do we do?" Sam asked.
"We fight."
