"There you are," Mia said as Riley exited the bathrooms. "I asked the DJ when the next slow song would be, and he said in five minutes!"
"Ok,"
"You can dance with Jordan, I know you didn't get to yet,"
"Ok,"
"Stop saying ok!"
"Ok!" Riley chuckled. Then, she told Mia about what happened with Amy.
"Oh, God," Mia sighed. "What a jerk!"
"I know, right?"
"Let's get a cookie before the slow song," Mia and Riley made their way to the snack table. The cookies looked like leaves, and tasted good, too.
The next slow song started. Jordan searched for Riley. He saw her with Mia, eating cookies.
"Riley!"
"Oh, hi," Riley ate the last bite of her cookie.
"Um..."
"Uh..."
"Bye!" Mia dashed off. Great job, Mia, Riley thought sarcastically.
"Do you... want to dance?" Jordan said quietly.
"Sure," Riley's heart pounded.
The emotions watched as Riley put her arms around Jordan. Joy was pressing buttons all over the place. The song was over too quickly. Riley rushed to find Mia again.
"I just freaking danced with Jordan," Riley said, grinning. Mia squealed with delight. The girls danced wildly some more. A few songs later, the dance was over.
The friends walked towards Mia's neighbourhood first, only a few blocks away from the school. Riley noticed that Andrew was holding Mia's hand. Riley reached out for Jordan's hand, but they were in his pockets. Darn.
Jordan noticed Mia and Andrew, too. He took his hands out of his pockets and grabbed Riley's with one. Hopefully, she wouldn't noticed that his hands were clammy. But she just squeezed tighter, making Jordan smile.
Mia was the first to go home. Then Andrew. Jordan walked with Riley to her house, but no longer holding her hand. They were at her house quickly, and he knew what he had to do.
"Riley," he said. "I like you."
Riley blushed. "Well... I do, too."
They smiled, blushed, and leaned in for a kiss.
