Chapter 14: A Birthday to remember

Riley's POV

"Donnie wake up!" It's been two weeks since the rescue mission. Today there's a huge assembly for all CIT students at my school that is mandatory. Donnie has been working himself to the bone on random experiments to keep himself busy. And refused to wake up so that we wouldn't be late.

Just then Mikey popped his head into the room that Donnie and I now share. "If you want to wake him up you're going to need a huge cup of black coffee and a plate of bacon. Thankfully yours truly has made breakfast. Well not the coffee. It's the one thing I can't make."

Mikey hands me a plate of bacon with scrambled eggs. I walk over to our Keurig that I brought from my dads' old house. Surely enough like Mikey said Donnie wakes up and eats his breakfast in the lab while I take a shower.

We had both eaten breakfast and showered when we hear a commotion. "Can someone please let the lovebirds know that their friend is here to pick them up?!" "Raphael! You have mediation to do!" That was Raph and Splinter going at it again. Morning, day, and night, the two of them would argue about Raph's strict mediation regimen for mourning the loss of Mona.

Zayn had called last night at 3 am asking if it would be alright to pick me and Donnie up. "Everything alright?" I ask him as the three of us exit the lair. "Long story, I'll explain later." He replies.

Hours pass by, the head of CIT department has decided that the renovations to the CIT buildings will take longer than expected making all CIT classes cancelled until the fall semester in a few months. Just as we're leaving campus... "Hey Zayn! There you are! I've been worried sick babe!" Zayn rolls his eyes. "Yeah, didn't seem that way last night, babe." "Don't start that. I knew it would be a bad idea to go clubbing the night before a mandatory assembly."

The two of them walk off to reconcile, leaving me and Donnie alone. "Ok now what?" I ask him. "I've created a remote control starter for all the vehicles at the lair. I just need to test them out." With the touch of a button on his t-phone he summons the party wagon, which is running on a newly installed autopilot system.

Later that night we're back at the lair watching a movie with April and Casey. Raph is doing mediation again, while Leo and Mikey watch Crognar in Mikey's room with Klunk. "So April, how are things going with your mother?" I ask. "Good so far, the only thing is catching her up on what's happened with my life and the Earth. Casey and I are going to renew our vows for our five year wedding anniversary with a big wedding for my mom to see. We'll tell my parents about the baby then. We've set the date one month from now."

Just then Donnie's phone rings. "Excuse me a minute guys, don't pause the movie." He leaves to answer his phone. Just as he leaves my phone rings as well. "Hey Riley, it's Papa. Listen since your birthday is this weekend how about we have dinner at the house. Invite Donnie and his family, don't forget Zayn as well." I hear a crash in the background. "Papa, is Daddy trying to cook again?" "More like trying to learn how to cook. It's not going well. I should go before he burns the house down." "Papa, I don't even know where we're having dinner!" "The old house, I'll explain more tomorrow night." "Ok sounds good."

The next day Donnie, Leo, Raph, Mikey and Splinter are piled up in the party wagon with April and Casey. Zayn and Xander are meeting us at the house. The only difference is that this time we're not picking up pizzas because Papa has made dinner. Patrick, James, and Fi can't make it because of finals.

At dinner we see Allison who is showing off her baby bump. Daddy and Papa have had her over every week for dinner because of the babies. The night goes on we laugh and cry. The origins of Donnie and his brothers is revealed to my dads. As for the house, Daddy and Papa didn't have to move because our next door neighbor Mr Smithers left his portion of the building where our house is to my dads since he and his wife never had children. (The house is a duplex.) Daddy and Papa have been connecting the two houses to make room for everyone.

At dessert Donnie brings out a beautiful white sheet cake with purple piping icing and a fondant figurine of me on my laptop on top with Happy Birthday Riley in purple icing. Donnie pulls out a small box. I open it, inside is a Pandora charm bracelet with a purple heart charm, a turtle charm with amethyst stones in it's shell, a laptop charm, and a charm of a boy and girl, the entire bracelet accented with amethyst stones, my mothers birthstone. "We'll do something special just the two of us for your birthday this weekend." Donnie whispers in my ear.

A/n: Riley's birthday is May 4 and she turns 24 this year making her older than the turtles who are 23 in this book.
