ASHER

5 YEARS LATER

The alarm started ringing throughout the room waking me and Charlie up from our slumber. I rolled over onto my back, pretty much landing on Charlie who let out a grunt of some sort. "Good morning baby," Charlie moved and hoped on top of me, giving me slobbery wet kisses. "Hi, hi, yes I see you, good girl." This is Charlie, named after Charlotte of course. I got the golden retriever, who believes she is a lap dog, after Charlotte left with our baby, which l don't blame her for.

And let me set something a straight

And let me set something a straight. When I was drunk I did not sleep with Becca. I wouldn't have. I learned what emptiness felt like after she left and I know nothing could fill that. I was so drunk that I couldn't see straight but I was graced with remembering every single detail of that night. Right as Becca sat on top of me Charlotte entered the house. I wasn't really aware of my surroundings until Char came in. You may not believe but I wouldn't have followed suit if Becca made a move, I would have pushed her off and moved on with my wallowing. Oh also, I only cheated on Charlotte once, not that it makes it any better. I cheated on her, nothing else about it. I have nobody else to blame but myself for the situation I am in, it was nobody's fault but my own.

The bark, followed by a whine brought me out of my thoughts. "Want to go outside? Come on baby let's go, daddy has to hurry, his flight is going to be leaving soon." I was heading down to Washington D.C. for another gala dinner, hosted by a business partner of mine. I hated these galas because they take me away from the things important. Like looking for Charlotte and our baby, which I have been doing since day one, but she became a ghost. Have I given up? Nope. Oh and also running a business and taking care of Charlie are what is important to me.

After taking out Charlie I took a quick shower. After grabbing my suitcase and Charlie I headed towards the airport, where my private jet was waiting. Once Charlie was buckled in the front seat and my suitcase in the trunk I headed towards the airport were my jet was waiting

Damn tuxedo is the most annoying thing ever. Charlotte always loved me in them and whenever I saw her please it made me please and my displeasure disappear. But I didn't have her smile to lite up my situation, so some fanagaling with the tux will have to do.

Charlie has eaten and is sitting on the couch watchin me get ready. "Okay girlie, I will be see you when I get back, sorry to leave but I will be back soon. Be good." And with that I left the hotel room and headed to the car that was waiting for me.

...

I was on time, but the place was packed. I walked down the stairs, stopping to look over the crowd. When I reached the bottom of the steps I headed to the corner where the bar is located along with some other business partners. There they stood drinking and talking causally. They saw me before I reached their group, smiles and outstretched hands were thrown my way. I took them all in with a small nod, a firm handshake accompanied with a, "hello gentlemen" to all. I stood with a scotch in my hand, courtesy of the waiter at the ball, and listened to the conversation taking place around me. I didn't really involve myself in the conversation very much. I was always an outgoing person, the one who carried the conversation. But in the past five years I have became more reserved, I was less kind and more harsh and what some would call a wall around myself. I am now known as a heartless businessman, scorned from the woman I love, from my own screw up. Which is true. I changed me. I lost my angel, my light. And it showed.

Later on when I finished my second skotch the room got significantly quieter. Feeling the hair in the back of my neck go up in a good way, I turned around and looked for the thing that was having such an effect the crowd and myself. I couldn't believe my eyes. I closed my eyes and then reopened them, checking if this was real. It was. Coming down the steps was an angel. My angel descending down to me. After years of non stop searching she found me, even if she didn't know it. Fate brought us back together. Holy fuck I sound like teenage girl. Do I give a shit? Nope.

I couldn't take my eyes off of her, afraid she would disappear if I did. I followed her every move, her smile had my breath hitching and her laugh had my heart skipping a beat.  But her smile wasn't as bright as it should have been and her walk did not hold as much confidence as it once did.  A peace of my heart cracked away knowing that I did this to her.  I didn't break her, she was to strong to be broken, but I did crack her beautiful armor.

After watching all her moved for I don't know how long, everybody started to head towards the tables, I was jerked out of my daze and headed towards my table. Throughout the whole walk I constantly kept tabs on my Charlotte.  I ate the dinner I was served but I didn't actually taste it.  For throughout the dinner I kept all of my attention in her, not engaging in conversation or dining pleasantries.  All of my attention was on her.

When their was movement happening around me I took my attention away from her and looked around the room.  People were mingling, dinner was over.  The conversation now got more joyous, loud, and the dance floor started to fill.  I went to the bar, where I had a perfect view of Charlotte as she perused around the room and danced with her abundance of desired filled followers.  And her many dance partners, which cut me open whenever I saw her laugh in their arms.  I was killing myself watching this.  Did I stop?  No. I worked myself into a frenzy, to the point where I was close to combustion.  My feet started moving before my brain could even follow.  I didn't stop, people made a path for me for they saw I was a man on a mission.  Once I was close enough to her I grabbed her, turned her around and brought her mouth to mine.  I was met with a whimper and fireworks.  The earth stopped moving beneath my feet and all the fucking stars lined up together as she kissed me back.  She kissed me back.  This is were I am meant to be all along, with her, and with me falling apart into pieces all the while she put me back together piece by piece.  This was home.
