"Hey, I'm home!" I shouted. I didn't get a response, but that was to be expected. Ayase was at work and my sister was probably at a club meeting at school.
With a sigh I took my shoes off and threw my bag into the first piece of furniture, which happened to be the kitchen table. I ventured to the fridge and found a half eaten sandwich, which I imagined was Ayase's so I took it from the fridge to eat it. After stuffing the entire thing into my mouth I face palmed the couch with the intention of taking a quick nap and getting straight to my homework. Unfortunately, due to a certain someone, I've been losing sleep lately so I slept until Ayase placed her fat ass on top of me.
I looked up at her as she glared at me. "So, I've noticed that you are home" I nodded. "I've also noticed that my lunch from earlier is gone" I nodded once more, yawning as I pushed her off of me. "You freaking asshole! I was going to eat that!"
"Sorry, it was just there and it looked so good" I admitted, finally sitting up and staring at the kitchen. Her things were thrown everywhere in the kitchen. "Did you just get home?"
"No" she rubbed the back of her head and sat back down in front of her laptop. "I've been here for a while. I was just getting hungry and thought 'hey! I have a sandwich in the fridge', but no. When I look it's all gone. No more. Zip! And who else do I find other than the world's laziest ass on my couch with sandwich crumbs around his face. Are you really so lazy that you can't even wipe the crap off your face before sleeping?"
I nodded, not hurt at all by her comments. "I haven't been able to sleep a lot lately" I admitted.
She eyed me. "Why?" Her eyes changed to amusing suspicion. "Oooh. Is it a girl?"
My eyes casually glanced to the side. "It's something like that"
She was suddenly interested in every aspect of my life. "What? Really? Who? Where?"
"I'm not telling you" but she kept pushing me and pushing me until I got to the point of severe annoyance. I could argue with her, but that might take energy. It'd be less of a hassle just to give in and tell her. Stubbornness isn't exactly my forte. "Fine. But don't laugh"
She grinned happily, as if the incident with her sandwich never occurred, and placed her hands together. "Tell me. I won't laugh!"
"Alright. Stop shouting. I helped this kid in a grade lower than me. If I hadn't they would have gotten raped. Then it happened a second time and I ended up getting conned into becoming a fake boyfriend"
She stared at me for a long while. "So... Your saying that this underclassmen is only pretending to date you... Because why?"
"So they don't get targeted by other guys. Apparently that's been a problem for them so they need me to ward off the sickos"
Ayase's smile slowly faded. "Wait. Underclassmen. But... Don't you go to an all boys school?" I nodded. She bit the nail right on the head. Her mouth dropped open in pure shock. "So... This person your pretending to date..."
"Is a boy"
At first she just stared at me in complete disbelief, then began laughing her ass off. "Hahahaha! I can't believe it! You, the laziest guy ever, dating another guy!" Once she finally calmed down the first question she asked was exactly what I was expecting her to say. "Are you gay?"
I shook my head. "No, I'm not... I'm just helping him"
She continued to laugh as she stood up to clear off her work stuff from the table. "Wow, that's rich"
I sighed. "You can shut up now"
"Alright, alright. Ah. Where's your sister?"
"She didn't come home?"
Ayase shrugged. "Not that I know of"
Just then the front door opened and my sister came walking through. Just like me, she threw her bag on the first piece of furniture she could find. Her dead eyes gazed over at us. "What?" She asked solemnly.
Ayase smiled. "Nothing. I was just wondering if you were home. I'm cooking some dinner, hungry?"
Kioko, my sister, shook her head as she pulled the tie from her neck. "I ate with my club after school. I'm going to run a bath"
As she started walking down the hallway slowly Ayase shouted down to her "oh, and Misato got a boyfriend!" Kioko didn't react at all to it, just raised her hand up to acknowledge it. Just like me. We're both really lazy.
Ayase glared at me. "The two of you are so apathetic. Get some emotions once in a while. Seriously"
"You realize we're not actually dating... Right?"
A few minutes later Ayase made food for herself and Kioko and I were sprawled on the couch lazily. Kioko was looking at me every once in a while and sighing. "Are you really dating a guy?" She asked.
"Hmm?" I glanced over at her. "Not really. We're just pretending"
"Oh. Why?"
"To get the other guys to leave him alone"
She was about to say something else when the phone rang in the kitchen. Ayase leaned over to pull the phone off the wall. "Hello, Ayase speaking... Yes... Oh, hi! How are you?.. Yep... Yep... Right in the living room" she glanced over at us. Both of us went stiff. "Hey, Kioko, Misato, it's your parents. Want to say hi?"
Both of us glanced at each other and shook our heads. "Pass"
"Hey, come on. They're your parents!"
"No" I said, feeling to tired to say much of anything else.
Kioko nodded. "I have nothing to say"
"Not even a goodnight"
"No" we answered in unison.
There wasn't a chance in hell I'd talk to either one of them. It wasn't like I was mad at them, but at the same time I was bothered. They just dumped us here so they could continue living their lives. It's a strange situation, but we weren't actually raised by our parents.
When I was five and my sister was four, our parents dropped us off at Ayase's apartment. I was too young to remember exactly why, and no one will tell us, but ever since we've been raised by this woman. We were never told what her relationship was with our parents, and we see both our mother and father every event and holiday. Never once have they missed a birthday or a Christmas, yet they aren't around for anything else. Needless to say, we didn't have much of a relationship with them.
Kioko sighed when Ayase asked again and stood up. "I'm going to bed" and she left.
I sat there with boredom on the couch completely ignoring her talking about our parents. Eventually she stopped and started talking to them about whatever they really called for. "So, where are you now?" She paused. "Oh, New York! Is it nice there?.. Oh, colder?.. Well, I look forward to seeing you both then" she hung up the phone and hopped over to the couch happily. "They're coming back to Osaka tomorrow"
"Oh good" I monotoned.
"Aaaaand- you can go to the festival together!" Her smile stretching from ear to ear.
I glanced up at her with an unamused expression. "What? The festival next week?"
"Ye-ah!" Her smile faded. "Wait. Why?"
"I... Already made plans"
"Oh... Of course you did. Is this just your way of avoiding your parents?"
I frowned. "Like I can call them parents. But anyway, yeah, I do have plans. I'm going to the festival with a friend"
"You? With a friend?" Her tone in amusing disbelief. "Oh... Wait... That boy?"
I nodded. "He wanted to go so I'm going with him"
She sighed. "Alright. But at least say hello to them"
I nodded. But I really didn't see the point in it. They were just going to leave again right after the festival.
