"What!"
I quickly slapped my hand over Kioko's noise hole and hissed at her to be quiet. She threw my hand off her mouth and glared at me. "Are you insane?" I demanded. "Ayase is in the next room"
"Am I insane?" She retorted with much offense. "I think you mean you are insane. That guy was his uncle and his uncle's been raping him?" Again I slapped my hand over her mouth and she annoyingly removed it. "Stop that!"
"Look, don't tell anyone?"
"What? I thought you said you were going to fix it?"
"I know what I said" I glared at her. For some reason she's been a bit of a jerk lately. "But he already has a difficult time at school so I wanted to do this without anyone at the school finding out. Your good with sneaking around under your schools radar, how do you do it?"
"Wait" She leaned against the wall and crossed her arms. "So you let me in on your little plan just so you could figure out how I do everything without the school finding out?"
To this she was referring to a string of crimes she had committed without her school catching wind of it. Every one of these crimes were childish pranks that meant for a good passing time, but in the eyes of the principal it was a major offense. Once she hid all the desktop icons on the school computers by screenshoting the background and using the screenshot in place of the actual icons. When no one could make the icons work it became a huge dispute. No one could figure out who did it and no one was accepting responsibility. Shortly after a week the entire school got a detention, which was really nothing but a mass study hall that everyone was grateful for.
"I need to be able to tell the police about this without him getting in trouble with the school"
She sighed. "You know, if its his uncle the incident might end up in the media. Then what are you going to do about that? He'll be history by the end of that. He probably wont be able to get a job with a record like that"
"What if the police keep it confidential?"
"That'll be your best bet. Usually the police will keep it to themselves, especially since this involves a minor. So anyway," She uncrossed her arms and glanced at my bedroom door. "he's staying here tonight, isn't he?" I nodded. "Where is he going to go after you tell the police?"
"He'll probably live here. Or find another relative to stay with, though he said that he doesn't have any"
"Hmm" She thought a moment. "How old is he?"
"Well, one grade level below me, so-"
"He's a second year high school student. That makes him sixteen years old. He can live on his own, you know?"
I frowned. "He can really do that?"
"Sure, why not? If his uncle is like you say then all of his family will be gone. They're only option is to put him into foster care or let him live on his own. The apartments here don't cost that much, and he'll be your neighbor"
I nodded as my brain started to formulate a plan. Finally, I knew exactly how I was going to help him.
After a few more words with Kioko we both went our seperate ways and I wondered back into my room. Yasuma was looking at all the manga I had and the large pile of books in the corner. "You like to read... don't you?"
"It's a good passing time" I admitted, taking a seat on the floor just below where he was sitting on my bed. "A good book is worth a lifetime of lessons. Someone said that to me, but to be honest I don't remember who"
