-A Glimmer of Hope-
The warm sunny summer days were fading into a big blur. Autumn leaves blowing slowly with the help of the breeze, she knew that school was starting soon. The torture of high school begins in two days and to say she's prepared is an understatement; last year she was called names for being smart.. A's in every class but French. She's ready to have no friends once again; it just means that people lack the personality to care for her.
The weekend has passed and it's off to school she goes. People make their way through the corridors and say hello to friends. Some step on her and smile sheepishly, most have no idea who she is until class starts. That's when they make fun of the girl who writes non-stop in each class, nobody realizes that she's hiding her anger she picks up her things and leaves the room without a word or a glint of a tear in her eyes. Something she's learned to control the past year and a half of school is her emotions and her timing, while exiting the classroom she notices a young boy about her age against a locker reading.. That was a shocking sight to her. No boys or girls for that matter read in this school, hell not even in this secretive city. "Maybe he's new, I should show him around. Maybe, introduce myself" she thought. But what if he's not and the boy she's been looking at for longer than she should has gone here for a while.. What if? She decided to go introduce herself, not sure where the sudden burst of courage came from she tapped his shoulder. "Hey, I'm Shiloh. I wasn't sure if I've seen you around here." He turned to face her now. They looked each other over and she immediately looked down "I'm Trent, I just moved here" he said. "So, do you need help getting around or anything?" she said slightly blushing. He half-smiled and agreed to take a look around. They slowly walked away from the lockers and out the school doors while enjoying the company of one another.
The leaves were blowing in circles close to the ground when she glanced up catching Trent studying her, she was fiddling with her fingers and taking in the scenery.. They'd been walking in silence for a while when he finally said something. "So, people here are different huh?" She looks at him and has a puzzled look on her face. "What do you mean?..Are you referring to the way some people act?" Shyly he nods.." Well the kids at school are talkative and aggressive, then there's you.. Quiet and careful, like you're different from them. Nobody has given me a second glance since I've been here.. I arrived in May and you noticed me today, it means alot to me."
She focused on the leaves once more " Well, I don't really know.. I don't usually talk to people but I find it easy to talk to you. We might've met sooner but I just got back from my dads in California.. You're different too, when I first saw you I thought that you were just another jock waiting to shove me into my locker but I needed to know. I'm more of a distinguished person." Being forgotten was really a normal thing to Shiloh but, I guess it bothered Trent..
