chapter 25

the car ride to the coffee shop was quiet.
Katie was embarrassed for her emotional breakdown in the woods; and Carlisle was worried that she would change her mind any second now.

        he pulled into the coffee shop parking lot and him and Katie both got out of the car and started walking towards the entrance. they both walked inside and sat down at the table by the window.

a lady came over to them with a notepad in her hand. she looked at Katie and then looked directly at Carlisle. she smiled at him with wide eyes.

"hi! what can I get you?" she said to the two.

"can I have a hot chocolate?" Katie asked.

the waitress glanced at her for a second with an annoyed expression. she scribbled something down on her notepad and then stared back at Carlisle.

Carlisle sighed quietly. he didn't need more drama in their relationship.

"yes can I have a water please." Carlisle said to the lady.

the lady smiled and wrote down something on her notepad once more.

the lady ripped off a piece of paper and wrote some numbers down. she placed it on the table in front of Carlisle.

"two drinks coming up, and here's my number for later" the waitress winked and smiled at Carlisle.

Katie glared at Carlisle and then back up at the lady. she was sick of people always flirting with Carlisle.

he picked up the piece of paper and handed it back to the woman.

"thank you, but no thank you. I have a wonderful girlfriend and I would like to keep it that way" Carlisle sighed. 

Katie smiled to herself.

the lady rolled her eyes and walked away.

"thank you." Katie said faintly.

"I could tell it was bugging you" Carlisle said, sitting up straighter in his seat.

they started some small talk but didn't have much to say.

"look let me just say again that I am so sorry Katie—" Carlisle began to say but Katie interrupted him.

"Carlisle; please stop with the apologies. it's starting to get annoying" Katie said, sitting back in her seat then looking out the window.

Carlisle looked down at his fingers and sighed. the quiet was interrupted soon enough by the waitress coming back with Katie's hot chocolate and Carlisle's water.

Katie sipped on her hot chocolate and remained silent.

"how's the kids?" she asked Carlisle

Carlisle looked up from his hands surprised by hearing katies voice.

"they're good. Alice misses you. she wants to see you sometime." Carlisle told her.

Katie smiled "we could go after here if you want to"

Carlisle's eyes widened slightly.
