I remember the storm. There was thunder, and lightning hit the ship.
It set on fire, and all the lifeboats were full.
So I grabbed onto a wooden plank and jumped into the ocean.

I woke up at a beach. I had a scar on my arm, almost like something had zapped me.
I saw the shadow of a girl, more like a mermaid, sink into the water.
Then I lay down again, too weak to move.

Turns out I washed up near the palace.
A maid found me and took me to my room.
My father visited me, and doctors and nurses were coming in and out.
All I had were hazy memories.

It was three days in that state before I felt better.
The first thing my father asked me was: "What happened?"
At least he wasn't ranting about character building.
I told him everything, about how the storm came, and lightning hit our ship.
About how there wasn't any space on the lifeboats.
He wasn't too happy about that. Said he'd have a heart-to-heart with the pirates.
I told him how I found myself washed up on the beach, how in one night, I drifted back to shore thought I had been traveling by ship out to the sea for more than a week.
It puzzled everyone.
I showed him my scar, which a doctor thought was caused by an electric eel.
He said that the electric current brought me back to life.
It got my heart beating.
It was the reason I was alive.
I told him everything but how I saw the mermaid.
I made a promise to myself that day. I would find the girl. I would find her and thank her, if it was the last thing I do.
