During the time leading up to Saturday Phil tried to work up the courage to ask his mother for approval. He knows he should have asked her before finalising the plans with Ash but he did not want to blow her off until he had the balls to actually ask. So there he was standing outside of his mother's office, 15 minutes till two, working up the courage to enter.

When he did, she did not automatically show that she knew his existence behind her.

"Mum," Phil's voice was small and slightly cracked due to him not using it in at least 12 hours.

"What?" She snapped hollowly, looking around at Phil in annoyance," You know I'm working, spit it out."

"Yeah, um, I was wondering if I could go out today, my new friend would pick me up so you don't have to bother."
His mothers eyebrow quirked up at his words.

"Wow I'm surprised that anyone tolerates you that does not have to."

Phil did not respond.

"What's their name?"At his mothers question he looked he looked up from his feet to meet her hard gaze. He knew what she was doing. She was waging if it meant enough to him to say no and get a reaction.

"Her name is Ash." The only reason she could even hear this was because she was actually paying attention for once.
She chuckled lightly at him, "do you like her?"

"What are you getting at, she is my friend so I have to like her." He asked quizzically starting to get squeamish under her attention for this long.

"Wait, oh yeah, you won't be looking for a girlfriend because you're a faggot." The glimmer in her eyes as his mother said these words twisted away at his stomach, the edges of her mouth curving up forming a sly smirk. She looked like she had accomplished some feat with making Phil feel noticeably horrible.

He looked forward not wanting to give her more pleasure in showing his discomfort,"Can I go?" He asked again emotionlessly.

"Knock yourself out, but don't get that shred of hope up because they are bound to get board of you eventually."
He simply nodded, not trusting his voice, and tired to leave.

Ah yes, that is the reason I avoid my mother at all costs.

Making sure to close the door on his way out, mostly so she can't turn and see the tears now running down his cheeks.

It does not matter how much I deny it, she's right, might as well embrace it.
