The Hunger Games: Peeta's Perspective

chapter 13

"just in time lover boy." said Glimmer.
"come on lets get moving." said Cato. I picked up a spear and brushed myself down. "I'll bring up the rear." said Cato "that means lover boy can't run off."
I frowned, that was my plan all along, to slip away into the woods. It's looking like I will never escape the career pack.

Suddenly one of the careers shouted "we've got her, we've got Katniss Everdeen." We were running now Cato soon overtook me, should I slip away. But all too soon I found myself with the others, looking up at Katniss. I saw Katniss look disappointed with me. She climbed a little higher and stopped at a forked branch high in the tree. "come and get me then." she shouted. Cato gripped onto the first branch and slowly started to haul himself up. About a third of the way up I heard a branch snap, suddenly Cato was falling fast. He landed next to me on the ground and let out a small groan. Glimmer ran over to Cato. "Are you OK Cato?" she said. He sat up and whispered something to her. They smiled and shared a love look. Glimmer helped up Cato and then loaded her bow with an arrow. She shot at Katniss but she moved out of the way and the arrow missed her by an inch. Glimmer shot again but like the other and stuck in the tree trunk next to the other arrow. "let's leave her up there then she can starve to death." I said, trying to protect Katniss. I saw her look at me, she was scowling, showing her anger. "common let's make a fire." said one of the careers. I lay on the ground and positioned myself so I could see Katniss' beautiful face. Soon I fell asleep and dreamed about district 12 and that there was never the Hunger Games. The next morning I was rudely awoken by the sound of buzzing.
