The Hunger Games: Peeta's Perspective

chapter 17

The cave was small and cosy. There was little light but small gaps let beams of it in. I positioned myself upright as Katniss crawled in. She pressed her hand against my forehead. "your burning up, you need to sleep" she said "I'm going to get some water." I was about to protest and say that she should sleep as well but she pressed her lips against mine. It felt good to see Katniss and I knew she was glad to see me too. When we pulled away I said "look a gift from a sponsor." Katniss reached her hand out of the entrance and grabbed it. She brought it over to me and opened it. It had steaming soup inside. "you need to eat." she said as she held it up to my mouth. The warm soup tasted amazing and it made me feel better. Katniss took her canteen out of her pack and went to the stream. When she came back I saw her stop in front of the entrance to the cave. After a minute or two she crawled back inside. "what's up?" I asked.
"I was seeing if anyone could see us inside the cave." she replied. She paused for a moment. "I think I'm going to cover up the entrance with vines just to be on the safe side."
"I think that is a good idea." I said. She took the canister of soup from my hands
She stared at it a moment then took a small sip and handed it back to me. "I'm gonna go and cover the entrance." she said. With that she left with her bow and arrows. Ten minutes later she came back with plants and leaves. I watched through the gap, I could see her carefully laying the plants against the rock. After another 10 minutes she squeezed inside the cave. She came over and took a sleeping bag out of her pack. She wrapped me up in it. "go to sleep." she said. Suddenly she was kissing me. It was long and passionate, maybe she does truly love me.

Then an announcement arrived.
