For some reason, Hayden's words stung Scarlett's mind like pins and needles. It almost made her want to talk to him. But every time that happened, she reminded herself about Fern. Don't ever do that again, she would think. I won't ever do that again, she would promise.
But only a day had passed since Hayden said that. I've been stubborn all this time. So stubborn about seeing Serena...maybe I need to not be stubborn this time. Scarlett shook her head. It's not like I have anywhere to go. I'm not going back to Vanessa and Bradley, and fern's family never really liked me. I have nowhere to go.
But I can't stay here either, the other side of her mind reminded. Once they know who you are, they won't keep you.
At least get to know Hayden. If you don't evens up liking him, which you probably won't, then what's the problem?
Scarlett sighed. No, I probably won't like him. So I'll go talk to him. What's the worst that can happen?
More dramatically then necessary, Scarlett stood up from the couch and walked, only to realize a lot of things. One, everyone was gonna from the house. Two, she'd never explored the house before. She didn't even know where anyone's rooms were. Three, she didn't know what she was gonna say to Hayden. Well I guess I'll have time to think about it, since it's two p.m. and no one even gets home until three-thirty.
