Compromise

Chapter 20

[Ryosuke's POV]

It was too close last night. Good thing I was able to teleport fast. I think I frightened her...

I actually visit her every night while she was sleeping. I'm always watching over her. At least, that way I can get to see her. She might really hate me now when she learns about this. I know I'm really stubborn but I miss her... I miss the times I'm with her... If only I can bring back the time, I will spend those moments treating her with kindness... I was blinded with my own sadness back then...

I'm planning to visit her again tonight. But I will really be careful this time.

12mn. I decided to teleport to her room. Just like what I always do, I closed my eyes and imagined her and her room.

I felt the gravitational pull and the moment I opened my eyes I'm in her room already. But what I saw made me worried. She's crying... Is she still in pain? But Hikaru~kun told me that she's fine... I need to go now before she sees me... But... I want to comfort her...

"R-Ryosuke~kun?" I heard her muttered.

I looked at her. Crap! She's gazing at me! She caught me!

"Uh... Hi! Hmm... Let me explain... I'm here just vi--"

I wasn't able to finish my sentence when she ran to me....

She ran to me and... hugged me. My heart beats so fast. My cheeks felt warm. I was frozen and all I can do is to smile... I slowly moved my arms. I hugged her... tightly.

"I'm sorry... I'm sorry, Ryosuke~kun," she cried.

"Why are you saying sorry?" I wondered.

"I'm the reason why you became a vampire," she said.

"What?" I asked. I might just misheard what she said.

"I'm sorry..." she cried.

"Ai, wait. I don't understand you. What do you mean?" I asked her.

"When I was in 1st yr junior high. The time I started idolizing you... I told my best friend that you suit to be a vampire... That I want you to be a vampire. She has knowledge about witchcraft... I didn't know she will be successful in doing it to you... I'm really sorry, Ryosuke~kun. I'm really sorry..." she narrated between her sobs.

I was shocked... I don't know what to say...

"Do whatever to me. Do whatever that will please you. I'm really sorry..." she cried.

"Hmm... I... I don't know... l-let's just look for a solution. Your friend knows how to bring me back into a normal human for sure," I said, upbeat.

"The only way to break the spell is to kill her..." she replied. "I don't want to kill her... She's the only family I have now... I-I don't know what to do now..." she said, hysterical.

I hugged her again. It might be her fault but I think she's already paid. About her father, I mean. Her friend is her only family right now and I don't want her to suffer anymore.

"Sshh," I shushed. "It's ok. Besides Johnny~san did what he promised to us. I'm ok now," I said, smiling.

"No... How about your family? Ryosuke-kun..." she cried even more.

"Look," I muttered. I tilted her head by pushing her chin up with my finger. "Stop crying now. I'm ok now & you should be ok now. You don't need to say sorry," I said.

"But--"

"No buts!" I pinned my forefinger on her lips. "Now sleep. I want you to sleep," I demanded.

"Ryosuke~kun..." she muttered.

I carried her & put her on the bed. "Sleep now. I'll be back tomorrow," I said. "But I won't go until you're not asleep," I added.

She gazed at me with teary eyes. I bent down and kissed her eyes. With that, she closed her eyes. "Sweet dreams," I whispered.

I watched her until she's sound asleep. When I'm sure she's deep in slumber, I teleported back to my condo.

[Ai's POV]

I woke up at 5am. I emailed Nagi to come over. I know what to do now. This will end everything. And I need to end what I started.

7am. Nagi came. I prepared breakfast for her. We're in the living room. We were just silently eating. After few minutes, we're done.

"Nagi..." I spoke, breaking the silence.

"What?" she asked.

"I love you," I said with all my heart as I looked into her eyes.

"I know. I love you too," she replied.

Tears ran down my face. "Thank you, Nagi. And sorry," I muttered.

"Why?" she asked. She went near me. Concern is shown in her eyes.

I brought out the knife from my back. I was holding it from the start. I was hiding it on my back. She froze from where she stood. Shocked.

"I'm sorry," I said once again.

"Ai..." she muttered.

I stabbed her on her heart. I dug it in inch by inch while crying.

My heart is breaking. This is not easy for me. But I need to do this. I love my best friend but I couldn't let Ryosuke~kun suffer even more. He might have said that he's ok but I know and I feel that he's not. He suffered for 5 yrs because of my stupidity...

Nagi smiled at me as she vomited blood.

I pulled out the knife from her heart. She gasped when I did that. It's my turn... I dug it in my chest. It's painful but I deserve this. This is nothing compared to what I've caused to Ryosuke~kun.

I held Nagi's hand as I smiled at her.

[Ryosuke's POV]

As I promised, I came back to her room this morning. But she's not in here. I decided to look for her outside the room.

As I stepped out, I could smell blood... And the scent is familiar to me. .. Could it be...? No!

I dashed towards to where the scent is coming.

"AI!!!" I screamed as I saw her. I scooped her from the floor. "WHAT DID YOU DO?!" I asked in panic.

She opened her eyes slowly and she smiled at me. "Y-you'll be f-free n-now," she stuttered.

I looked at the girl on the couch. Is she her friend? She's still breathing.

"You're Nagi?" I asked.

She tried so hard to nod.

"Hang in there! You can't die! You're the only family Ai has that's why you can't die! You understand me?" I told her.

She didn't answer...

I got my cellphone from my pocket & hurriedly dialed the emergency number. When they answered, I told them to send an ambulance immediately. After that, I'm checking at them both simultaneously.

"Hang in there," I told them. I'm holding Ai's hand tightly.. . Her breath is becoming seldom and her grip to my hand is loosening...

"Ai, please..." my tears came running down my face...
