Compromise

Chapter 21

[Ai's POV]

Everything is white. I think I'm in heaven now. I looked around as I wander the place. I saw a man from a distance. I walked toward him. As I go near him, I could recognize his face... it's father...

He's frowning at me. Is he not happy to see me?

"Father," I muttered, I smiled.

I walked in front of him. I was about to hug him but he just pushed me away. Then, all of a sudden, I felt my body was pulled downward. It's as if I'm falling. I closed my eyes as I shouted for help! I'm falling!

[Ryosuke's POV]

The line of the heartbeat monitor that is connected to Ai became flat. I pressed the buzzer for the nurse in charge of her to come. After few seconds, the nurse went rushing in. Her eyes darted on the heart beat monitor.

She got her radio and called for other nurses and the doctor. The doctor got the iron like thing that will help revive the life of Ai. He put the pair of iron thing above Ai's chest and it sounded like a beat. They did it again and again then the doctor stopped and faced me. He looked at me and shook his head at me.

"I'm sorry," he muttered with sympathy.

My brows furrowed. "No! No! You should do everything to revive her!" I shouted at him.

"She's already given up," he said, monotone.

"How could you say she already gave up? Did she say that to you!?" I shouted at him, wide eyed.

"Don't make fuss here, sir. We've done our best," he replied. How could he say those words without even knowing how I feel?

I clenched my fist and ready to punch him when something beeped. All of us in the room looked at it's direction. The monitor of Ai's heartbeat!

The flat line a while ago raised a bit and went down. It went up more than the first one and it went down again. It's fluctuating. Meaning... SHE'S ALIVE!!!

I went towards her, pushing the nurses aside. I sat on the chair beside the bed. I held her hand as I smiled at her with hope. Her hand twitched, tightening her grip to my hand.

"Yokatta..." I muttered with joy as tears ran down my face.

I woke up because of her moan. I looked at her. I examined her face. She grimaced. Slowly, she opened her eyes. I steadily gazed at her as I held her hand.

She moved her eyes to every direction until her eyes darted at me. I smiled.

"R- Ryosuke~...kun?" she muttered. Her voice is hoarse.

"Hai?" I asked.

"I'm alive?" she asked, whispering.

I nodded. She looked down...

"Is Nagi dead?" she asked.

"She's alive. She's resting in her room now," I informed.

"I'm sorry..." she muttered.

"Why are you saying sorry again?" I asked.

"Because you're not a human yet..." she answered. A droplet of water fell from the corners of her eyes.

"Who told you I am not a human?" I asked.

She looked at me. Confused.

"Haven't I told you that I'm a human? I came back to being a human when you made my heart beat. You've turned me back to being a human again. You don't need to say sorry. Understand?" I asked her.

She tried smiling. She nodded.

Suddenly, my phone rang. It's Yabu~kun. I answered the call, excited to tell them the good news!

"Yabu~kun! Ai is--"

"Yamachan, come to the jimusho right now," he cut what I was about to say. "Johnny~san wants to talk to you..." he added. His voice became sad.

"What? Why? I- I can't. Ai needs me now. I can't leave her right now. You all know what happened, right? Can't y--"

"That's the point, Yamachan. The news have reached Johnny~san and I think that's what he wants to talk with you. And worse, the other Johnny's talents are talking about you. Maybe because they saw the photos posted in the internet," he explained, almost a hiss. His voice is tensed but he's also worried.

I inhaled a deep breath. "Ok, I'm coming," I said then hung up.

I looked at Ai and walked towards her. I embraced her. I looked at her face. "I'll be gone for a while. I'll come back. I promise," I said, firm.

She nodded as she smiled at me. I kissed her forehead.

I pressed the buzzer. The nurse came hurriedly. "Please watch over her while I'm gone. I'll be back soon. Thank you," I said in a hurry.

Before I left, I looked at her for the last time. I smiled.

I walked toward the exit. This is just the beginning of our love story and I won't let anyone ruin it.
