In the morning when I woke up I momentarily forgot where I was. I only remembered what happened when I saw the large wooden bookshelves beside my window. I don't have a short term memory, so I wondered why I had forgotten where I was. Then I recalled the strange dream i had last night. I was a little kid running in the sunshine with my blonde hair streaming out behind me. I laughed and giggled and played with two blurry-faced strangers. Then all a sudden I was in the back of a dark car. Tears streamed down my face and someone in the front-seat told me to calm down. The voice was muffled, but sounded strangely familiar.
It was the same dream that I had a few nights ago, but it seemed more vivid. Also, I'd never heard the driver's voice before. I stretched my arms and let out a large yawn before banishing the uncomfortable dream from my mind. I sleepily rubbed my eyes then got ready for the day. Once I took a shower and got dressed, I grabbed my brush from the top of my dresser and ran over to the window. I opened it up and let the warm sunshine seep into my room. With a small giggle I looked behind me to make sure no one was around, even though I knew mother probably was already busy with something and wouldn't be checking on me.
Then I sat on the window sill and started to brush out my long hair. It took a long time to brush because of it's length, so to make the time pass by quicker I sang a little song. I don't know where I had heard it first, but I loved the way it sounded. Then all a sudden I heard someone yell, "Hey Rapunzel!" I scrunched my eyebrows together, and looked down at my backyard. Then my eyes fell upon a guy on the other side of the fence. I couldn't tell much about him, but I figured it couldn't have been me he was talking to. I didn't understand why he would call me that. Oh well.
I went back to brushing my hair, and glanced down again. The random boy was still there, watching me. Okay this was starting to get weird. When he noticed that I was looking at him he winked at me and waved. I rolled my eyes in response and got up from the window sill. After looking again to see if he was there, I shut the windows and pulled my curtains together. I felt a light blush come across my face, and shook it away. Why did he stare? Was there something wrong with me? I walked over to my dresser and looked at the mirror on to of it, everything seemed alright.
I smiled in the mirror and thought over a different explanation. Then I put my hair up into a bun and put in three clips to hold it together. Then I walked over to my bookshelves and picked up a book that the last occupants of the house had left behind.
The book was a green hardcover book with the words, "Grimm's Fairy Tales" written on it in Gold Ink. After flipping through the pages and inspecting the book I discovered that other than a fine layer of dust covered the outside, but everything else seemed fine. I sat on my bed and looked at the first story the book had in it. "Snow White and the Seven Dwarves". I liked this one, and had read it before, so I decided to read it again. It was different than I remembered, but still was pretty good.
The whole time I was reading the story I felt like there was something I still needed to do. I couldn't stop thinking about the strange boy outside. When I finished reading I took a deep breath and muttered to myself, " Your not going to look out the window."
Then I ran to the window. The boy was still out there, and he waved when he caught my eye. I stepped back from the window and decided to go outside. I put on a pair of sneakers, and walked out of my room, and down the stairs. I saw my mother hanging around the second floor. She saw my sneakers, and said "Where do you think your going?"
"Just into the backyard," I said a little too quickly.
"Why?"
"Well you know how we planted a garden that one time?" I waited for her to nod, then went on "I thought that would be cool to do again. I was just going to go check things out."
