Rewritten is now published! It's better for me as a writer to create something I love then drag on with something I don't.
The Rewritten will
-have similar plot
-same characters
-have smoother transition
-overall better, just sayingIt would mean a lot if you would check it out
Love,
AllieDinner with 'The Home Wreckers'
It was Saturday and I had left Devin's house to see Dad. The door was open and Dad was inside the kitchen sorting through the mail. He threw out a letter into the recycling bin, scowling in disgust.
"What was that?" I was curious, Dad always aimed to pay his bills and reply back to any letter.
He replied with a mumble, "Junk." He took all his mail and handed me my mail. It was nothing important, just a notification from my dentist. When he turned around for a moment I reached into the recycle bin and grabbed the envelope.
"I'll be upstairs." I rushed up to my room, hearing a small grumble from my dad. The envelope was generic and the address was handwritten. Looking at the envelope I knew immediately why Dad threw it away. It was from Lula Dixon, my mother.
Sighing, I ripped it open and pulled out a piece of paper.
Reese, I know you probably won't read this, but maybe you'll give me a chance. I am sorry for everything I put you and Jayne through, I just don't know who to go to, I have no one else to turn to.
If you could, maybe you could meet me at the café in town on Monday at noon? I have something important to tell you.
I hesitated, wondering what to do. If I told Dad he would never go. Diane did say Mom had something important to say. I tucked the letter back into the envelope and under my pillow.
Laying down, I rubbed my face, trying to relax. What would I even say to her? I could tell her how I felt? No. That would result in an arguement and even more stress. What if she had cancer? What if she was dying? When people say they have important news, It would most likely be bad news.
Inhaling through my nose and exhaling through my mouth, I sat up and headed to shower, I needed to wash the grime away from yesterday.
Was she in trouble? What if she had gotten herself into a gang or mafia?
What if she needed money? My loofa was scrubbing furiously and turning my arm red.
No. She would have to be stupid to think that she could get money from us.
What if she was leaving the country?
What if?
What if?
What if?
I was in the middle of putting shorts on when my phone buzzed with a notification.
Are you free on October 1st? I need to go out of state for a month or two (family emergency) and I was wondering if Rebecca could stay at your house.
Two weeks from now? Though I wish it was sooner I would take what I could get; I rarely got to visit Rebecca. I replied back with a yes and did a happy dance around the room then flopped on my bed. This was exactly what I needed. I started planning our time together in my head. Rebecca would go on a tour with Devin and I around the town.
I pressed 'speak' button on the walkie-talkie excited to share the news.
"Devin, Guess what?"
There was no reply, maybe he wasn't in his room...
