Rewritten is now published! It's better for me as a writer to create something I love then drag on with something I don't.

The Rewritten will
-have similar plot
-same characters
-have smoother transition
-overall better, just saying

It would mean a lot if you would check it out

Love,
Allie

It was Monday morning and Devin and I hadn't spoken to each other since yesterday. We were both in our bedrooms preparing for school. I could clearly see him through my window and if I listened carefully I could hear him singing softly.

I stepped out of the front door, bagel in hand, making my way across our lawns to lean on Devin's car. It felt weird to eat breakfast alone and not have Devin raiding my fridge. I saw his figure through his screen door, carrying his backpack, textbook, drink, and a biscuit. He fumbled  to juggle his belongings and open his door. He didn't even notice me until he was pulling his keys out of his pocket.

"Hey." I smiled at him. My breath fogged the cold air and I buried my face in my scarf.

"Hi." He walked past me into the driver's seat, starting the car. I ran around the car and sat down in the passenger's side.

The silent car ride seemed like it took years and I let out a sigh when Devin pulled into the school's parking lot. We walked toward the school in silence. I looked down at my boots and shoved my hands further into my coat. I was so focused, I didn't notice Devin walk ahead of me and into the building along with the other students.

We were watching the movie adaptation of To Kill A Mockingbird but from the corner of my eye I could see Devin sleeping on his desk. I pulled my eyes away from his figure and focused on the movie.

Dammit Jayne. You're so obsessed with him. Stop being so creepy.

I woke up startled. My eyes adjusted to the bright light and I saw Mr. Alexa's face, looking down at me, form in discontent. My face heated and I wiped the drool from the corner of my lips. The entire classroom was empty and the credits of To Kill A Mockingbird were rolling on the projector screen.

"Sorry sir." I grabbed my backpack and stepped outside the classroom. I hurried along to Volleyball class, but the wind was knocked out of me when I was pushed aside by a tall man dressed in blue.

"Students and faculty, clear the halls and continue on with your lessons. Everything is under control." The principal's nasal voice blared through the intercom.

I heard the sounds of wheels approaching as men in blue passed with a gurney. A strange feeling arose in me and I followed the direction of the men.

"He has bruises on his head and he's not coming to. They said right in the middle of the gymnasium." There was a scrawny man with glasses talking to the rude guy who bumped into me.

EMTs?

"What's with the other gurney?" Rude guy questioned Scrawny.

"Said that there was another student who passed out when they saw their classmate on the floor. Kines and Yaris are already on it. They should be coming now."

The gymnasium door opened as two men hurried out with two stretchers. I didn't want to believe it but when I saw Devin's mother, Diane, still in her scrubs with tears running down her face, my heart plummeted into the core of planet Earth.

"My baby boy!" Diane screeched and ran alongside the gurney, touching Devin's face and hands.

I didn't realize I was outside and running until I was halted by a man in blue. It was Rude Guy. He was speaking to me but my mind didn't make sense of it. I only heard the cries of a mother. Ignoring him, I ran to her. Devin was being put into the ambulance, surrounded by men in blue uniforms.
