L was awoken by the too-familiar sirens of a police car.
He pulled the covers up over his face, trying to block out the sound. It would go away in a few seconds at the most.
But, it did just the opposite.
The police car drove right past the base, and since L was the nearest to the street, he was the most bothered by it. He couldn't even hear himself think.
He pushed the covers off and sat up. The sirens weren't going away, and L was almost positive that he was dreaming.
He rubbed his eyes, but the sirens didn't stop.
L glanced at the clock and saw that it was two minutes past midnight. He yawned, climbing out of bed and walking to the window.
He peeked out from the blinds and saw the reason why the sirens weren't going away: the police car was parked in the house right next to his. He sighed, hearing backup arrive to the scene.
He walked out of his room and saw Watari standing in the living room, looking at the same scene as L.
"Watari?"
"Ryuzaki, go back to your room. You shouldn't be seen."
"Watari...what do you mean by that?"
Watari faced L, expression stern. "I mean go back to your room!"
L stood there, shocked by the way Watari had yelled at him. He hadn't been yelled at for years.
"GO!"
L didn't hesitate anymore, he turned and ran back to his room, slamming the door behind him and running straight to the window. What's going on here?
He stared at the scene going on outside. More police arrived, and they pounded on the door, yelling for someone to open it.
There was a 95% chance that nobody would answer.
When L was proven right, the police knocked down the door, going into the house.
By now, everybody around the scene had woken up and were watching from a distance, that including Watari...except he was nearer and had his hand on his hip, where L knew his coat covered a gun.
L clenched his fist, wanting to be standing by Watari's side, seeing exactly what he was seeing. But no, he was stuck in his room...for what reason exactly?
L turned his back to the window, too mad to think. He needed a plan to escape, but Watari would catch him, and the last time he had tried to escape, Watari had sent him to the Wammy's House to get a little talk from Rodger.
It was the longest talk L had gotten in his life.
L saw a shadow pass on the floor of his room. He whipped around, trying to look for the source of the shadow, but it was long gone. He could hear the yells of the police from inside.
He walked back to the window and saw the police dragging out a person in their arms.
L's eyes widened. He couldn't stay in here anymore. He grabbed his sweater and pulled it over his head, also putting his hood out.
He went out from the back door to avoid being seen from the front door. He breathed in the cool night air and sprinted barefoot across the grass until he reached the scene.
