     "Mello..."

     "Hm?"

     "We have a problem."

"What?" Mello sat up on one elbow, looking at Matt with a confused expression that was clear even in the dark.

"L seemed really unhappy during that Skype call."

Mello sighed, flopping back down onto his side. "To be honest, L always seems unhappy. And you saw how his expression changed when Emily told him about us."

Matt still didn't believe it. "I think there's something going on."

Mello gently took Matt's face in his hand, so close their noses were touching. "It's a difficult case, of course he'll be stressed. Just watch, the moment it's solved, he'll be back up and running."

I still couldn't explain myself, and you couldn't understand. Matt thought, but didn't say anything. He took a deep breath and relaxed, letting Mello close the gap between their faces. Matt wrapped his arms around Mello's waist.

It seemed like the perfect way to get your mind off of L's unhappiness, but it didn't work. Matt, even though he was thinking about Mello, L was still creeping around in his mind, making it impossible to relax and just be comfortable in his lover's arms.

Mello pulled back for air, his hands dropping down to Matt's shoulders. His smile turned into a frown. He shook Matt. "Hey! Stop thinking about L for a moment. Why is it bothering you so damn much? Look, I'm a little worried for him, too, but he has Watari protecting him from the worst of it. Why can't you pay a little attention to me?"

Matt sighed. "I'm sorry, Mello. I really want to enjoy this moment, but why L's stress bothers me is because of a conversation we had long ago. It was about our pasts...what we remembered of our real families. You get this?"

     Mello nodded.

"His was...a little like this fantasy nightmare."

    "Oh."

"And the details of this case match up to some of his greatest fears."

"Double oh...I did not know this."

"Yeah," Matt looked away from Mello's face and at his own hand, "you know what? I need some air."

"So surprising since all you do is stay inside and smoke up our room."

Matt ignored Mello's comment. He swung his legs over the edge of the bed and got up, walking to the window, pushing it open, and sitting on the windowsill. Even though technically he was sure that Mello was watching him from the bed, probably hogging the blankets, he felt a little at peace.

Matt heard the bed springs creak as Mello reached under the bed, retrieving a chocolate bar, most likely.

"Mello, you're going to wake up with a sore throat."

There was a loud snap of chocolate breaking. "I don't care. How are you feeling? Want to come back?"

Matt silently slid off the windowsill and closed the windows, facing Mello, but not quite walking back yet. Mello had wrapped himself into a blanket cocoon, playing with the wrapper of a chocolate bar in his right hand. "Was that really that cold?"

     Mello shrugged. "Maybe."

"Forget the fact that you're my boyfriend, how did we even become friends?"

I don't exactly know why I wrote this scene. I don't even like to include romance in my writing that much at all. What happened to me?

I guess I wanted to explore their relationship a little, since it's not the average romance. Not very cliche, either. I mean, look at these guys.

Forgive me for straying a little off-topic.
